The season has six games to run and still nothing has been decided and sealed. The title race is again looking likely in going down to the final day with Helsingborgs and Malmo practically inseperable. The relegation issue is extremely tight that literally includes six sides. The battle for Europe is also heating up in the crisp air.
Title Race:
The title race has featured two sides for the majority of the season with Helsingborgs top and Malmo close behind. In recent weeks Helsingborgs slipped and Malmo levelled. At the moment it is Malmo who are top by goal difference but there are some very big games coming up for both sides.
Tomorrow Malmo host IFK Goteborg in a though game while Helsingborgs go to AIK. The feeling is that if points are to be dropped they will be in this coming round of games. After this round both sides face 'easier' games. Helsingborgs face some tricky away games with trips to Elfsborg and Halmstads in the coming month while Malmo are away to the likes of BK Hacken, Trelleborgs and Brommapojkarna.
The verdict I suppose is that Malmo would win the title. Helsingborgs have a cup final also to focus on as well and have the harder run-in.
Europe:
Europe is surely wrapped up for Malmo and Helsingborgs which leaves two more places up for grabs by half the league. 10th placed Trelleborgs are matimatically still in the race being just nine points off the 4th spot.
Orebro are seven points clear of 5th placed IFK which will take some stoping so logic should say Orebro have the 3rd European place. The scrap for the last European place is not so safe. Elfsborg, IFK, Djurgarden, Kalmar, Mjallby and Trelleborgs have realistic chances of Europe which is going to add to the competition.
Both Mjallby and Trelleborgs are nine points adrift of 4th place and with six games left they are running out of games. Kalmar are two points better off and being seven points behind at this stage is not ideal. IFK and Djurgarden both are on 35 points and four points off so the battle should between them two and Elfsborg with Kalmar possibly having to win every game.
The verdict in this one is that Elfsborg will hold onto their 4th spot and join Orebro in the Europa League next summer.
Relegation:
Relegation is very tight this year. Just like last year it involves some big clubs in the likes of AIK and Halmstad. AIK have had a turbulent year and can't be ruled out from going down. Currently in the bottom three are Brommapojkarna, Gefle and Atvidabergs and with it so tight the likes of AIK, Halmstads and GAIS are not safe. AIK going down would be surprising at the start of the season but their problems have been on the pitch with poor results while Halmstads haven't had a good run of form all season. Brommapojkarna had a promising start but have had an awful 2nd half to the season while Gefle were struggling even with Alexander Gerndt until July. Atvidabergs have been around the bottom five for the whole season but a good run at this late stage would cap a great escape.
The verdict in this one is Atvidabergs, Brommapojkarna and Halmstads to go down. AIK will do enough and Gefle will pick up some vital points in their final games.
