Malmo showed intention from the start when Agon Mehmeti was unlucky when his header came back off the post before Daniel Larsson couldn't apply a finish to a good run.
Mehmeti was proving a tough act for AIK as he somehow got the better of Per Karlsson put his shot was saved by Ivan Turnia.
AIK took a while to settle and an Antonio Flávio effort was as good as it got for them in the first half. Just before the half-time break Jimmy Durmaz profited from a mistake by Antonio Flávio to cross for Mehmeti who touched home for 1-0.
The second half saw more chances for Malmo with Durmaz forcing a good save from Turnia before Mehmeti's header later on flashed agonizingly wide of Turnia's right-hand post. A tame-free kick from Antonio Flávio was the best AIK could muster as Malmo took all three points to close in on Helsingborgs at the top of the table.
