Sweden did just about enough to secure victory in Valletta on Wednesday night. Sweden's World Cup hopes are in the balance and this was a game they simply had to win to keep up the chase for a play-off spot. Malta, already out of contention were looking for a good result which they almost achieved. An own goal from the unfortunate Ian Azzopardi eight minutes from time settled this match.
No doubt where the problems lie which Lars Lagerback will be sorting out but a much better showing is needed ahead of the big Derby next month in Copenhagen against Denmark.
