Hammarby's hopes of nicking a point at least took a blow when Larsson got his 2nd of the afternoon on 67 minutes. Simon Helg gave Hammarby a chance with just seven minutes remaining. But again Hammarby's spirited performance was signed off when Edward Ofere made it 3-1 in added time.

Superettan Preview

The Superettan is now hotting up with Mjällby guaranteed at least a play-off place while Åtvidabergs are on course to securing promotion to the Allsvenskan in the coming weeks. But it is the fight for the play-off place that is really exciting. GIF Sundsvall currently occupy that vital 3rd place but a host of sides right down to Assyriska in 7th only separated by three points.

Relegation is also getting exciting with no one down as of yet although Vasalunds look like heading down on current form. What is sure to be a vital last few weeks we could expect some twists in the meantime.

Svenska Cupen Semi-Final

The second semi-final of this year's Svenska Cupen saw holders IFK Göteborg advance to meet AIK in the final courtesy of two goals late on. It was the visiting holders take the lead on 17 minutes through Sebastian Eriksson. Helsingborgs were determined to make the final and were level five minutes from half-time thanks to Erik Sundin. Henrik Larsson was bought on for the goal scorer Sundin but couldn't find a way through the tough Göteborg defense. IFK Göteborg's own custodian put them in the lead on 76 minutes which made for a thrilling finish. Helsingborgs lead by Larsson in attack tried in vain for the equalizer. As Helsingborg chased for that goal IFK Göteborg hit them with a sucker-punch four minutes from time as Theodor Bjarnason made it 3-1 to the visitors and ensured a final meeting with AIK on September 26th.

Örgryte 2-1 Halmstads 15th September 2009

Örgryte are off the bottom of the Allsvenskan for the first time this season. They are now finally looking likely to complete the greatest of escapes after this victory. But they had to work for this victory at home to a Halmstads side that is on a poor run of form and conceding goals at an awful rate. Marcus Olsson gave the visiting side the lead four minutes before the interval. Örgryte were not downhearted after that. Brazilian Alvaro Santos, becoming Örgryte's weapon in this relegation battle leveled ten minutes into the 2nd half. Chances for either fell and both keepers had to be alert. Just as we were heading for a draw the side bottom of the table for the whole season won the game, Alexander Mellqvist getting himself on the scoreboard in dramatic fashion in added time. Djurgården 1-2 Malmö 14th September 2009

Djurgården ended up losing this game at home to Malmo despite taking an early lead. The problems are mounting for the Swedish giants. Malmö meanwhile can breathe a bit easier after this result. Christer Youssef fired Djurgården in front after 21 minutes which seemed like getting Djurgården their first victory since the 5th of July. Edward Ofere leveled on 39 minutes to silence the hopeful home support. That man Ofere again popped up to give the visitors the lead on 56 minutes, as Djurgården's spirit ebbed away. Djurgården's night wasn't finished, defender Jan Tauer was sent-off with fifteen minutes from time. Superettan update

The Superettan is closing in and with seven rounds remaining it is getting interesting at both ends of the table.
We all know who will be champions. Mjallby have set the pace that no one has matched this season and will go up in the comming weeks. The battle for 2nd however is tight with GIF Sundsvall, Atvidabergs, Falkenbergs and Assyriska all in the running. This comming weekend sees Atvidabergs and Assyriska square up which will be a vital game as far as promotion is concerned.

Relegation:
The relegation scrap could end up going down to the final day with no one relegated and with just five points seperating 16th up to 9th it is going to be quiet and entertainging few weeks. This weekend Vasby host Jonkoping Sodra both teams in that scrap and victory for Jonkoping will surely be enough to push away. Vasalunds and FC Trollhattan currnetly occupy the relegation spots while Ljungskile and Sirius are in the play-off places.

Svenska Cupen Semi-Final

AIK ensured thei place in the final of the Svenska Cupen after a dramatic extra-time win over BK Hacken. AIK going strong in the Allsvenskan are still in with a shout for the double after ousting BK Hacken.
Fan favourite Iván Óbolo gave the capital side the lead after 21 minutes of play which seemed to push BK Hacken into life. Despite this it wasn't until just three minutes from time that BK Hacken forced extra-time, when Vinicius finished.
Just minutes into extra-time that man Vinicius gave BK Hacken the lead which looked like securing BK Hacken a cup final appearence. With just three minutes left of extra-time left defender Nils-Eric Johansson levelled the scores and it looked as if penalties were on the agenda. BK Hacken's hearts were shattered just minutes later when Markus Jonsson, with the last kick of the game sent AIK into the final.
AIK will play either Helsingborgs or IFK Goteborg who play next Wednesday.

Malta 0-1 Sweden 9th September 2009

Sweden did just about enough to secure victory in Valletta on Wednesday night. Sweden's World Cup hopes are in the balance and this was a game they simply had to win to keep up the chase for a play-off spot. Malta, already out of contention were looking for a good result which they almost achieved. An own goal from the unfortunate Ian Azzopardi eight minutes from time settled this match.
No doubt where the problems lie which Lars Lagerback will be sorting out but a much better showing is needed ahead of the big Derby next month in Copenhagen against Denmark.

Malta up next

Fresh from beating Hungary 2-1 away on Saturday, Sweden will be looking to make it six points from six when they travel to Malta in search of the victory.
A 4-0 success in June wasn't as convinceing as the scoreline suggests. Sweden were very careless in that game and also four days previously against Denmark. Tomorrow night though Sweden have the chance to bounce back into contension in a tight group.
Malta haven't played since that 4-0 defeat by Sweden on June 10th and are bottom of Group 1 with a solidary point from eight games. Michael Mifsud is the key player for Malta, the striker released by Coventry during the summer will be keen to spoil the party for Sweden.
With Denmark currently in 1st place with 17 points, Sweden are fighting with Hungary and Portugal for a play-off place that could be the next step towards South Africa next summer.

Hungary 1-2 Sweden 5th September 2009

Sweden secured a vital win in Budapest on Saturday night with Zlatan Ibrahimovic grabbing a last gasp winner for the Swedes. Sweden knew anything other than a win was needed and got off to good start when defender Olof Mellberg gave them a 9th minute lead. Sweden pressed for a 2nd while Hungary featuring a number of familiar faces such as Zóltán Gera, Peter Halmósi, Balazs Dzsudzsák and Tamas Hajnál had chances themselves to level.
Szabolcs Huszti converted a 79th minute penalty to damping the spirits of the Swedes. But Sweden had other ideas and it was Barcelona star Zlatan Ibrahimovic who scored the winner in the 3rd minute of added time to secure the much needed win for Sweden.
Next up on Wednesday night is Malta in Valetta.

Hungary task for Swedes

Swedem visit Hungary tomorrow for a vital qualifier which both sides will be taking very seriously. Hungary go into the game in 2nd place in the group behind leaders Denmark who have 16 points.
Sweden know nothing less than a win will be needed tomorrow before jetting off to Valetta to play Malta on Wednesday.
Last time out in June Sweden didn't have a great time. Losing to arch-rivals Denmark before an unconvincing win over Malta in Goteborg four days later. Sweden need the six points in this double header. But obtaining a result in Hungary will be difficult as Kalmar FF know.
Hungary has a Champions League Group Stage contestant who knocked out Kalmar on their way so this will not be an easy game going on Debrecen's showing.
Hungary go into tomorrow's game having not played a qualifier since a 3-0 win over Malta in April.
Henrik Larsson misses out but Sweden do have Zlatan Ibrahimovic back from injury and having scored in Barcelona's 3-0 win over Sporting Gijón on Monday he will be confident of adding more tomorrow.

GAIS 1-1 Djurgardens 31st August 2009

Djurgardens got a point for their efforts in this game but their situation remains very much in the balance after Orgryte got another win today to increase the pressure as the bottom.
It was GAIS who struck first when Richard Spong found the net on 16 minutes. Djurgardens took just five minutes to level when Daniel Sjolund struck.
A draw not the result either would've wanted as we enter the international break. Both sides need point in this relegation battle.

Malmo 0-0 Helsingborgs 31st August 2009

Malmo did damage to Helsingborgs hopes of lifting the Allsvenskan after holding the visitors to a 0-0 draw. Malmo have been lying in mid-table for most of the season were happy with this result.
Helsingborgs are definetly feeling the absence of talismatic striker Henrik Larsson, who is out with injury.

Orebro 2-0 Gefle 31st August 2009

Orebro made their home advantage count as they overcame Gefle 2-0. It wasn't until the hour mark when big defender Magnus Wikstrom headed them in front. Gefle have been very good this year but fell 2-0 behind just three minutes later when recent Brazilian recruit Adriano Munoz getting his goal.
