Ruiz in at Halmstads

Josep Clotet Ruiz has been appointed Halmstads manager for 2011. The Spaniard who was assistant coach at Malmo in 2010 will be given the task of taking Halmstads out of the doldrums.
The former Espanyol B coach has to improve the confidence in the squad.

Elfsborg 2010

Elfsborg were tipped as favorites for the title this year with their squad. This squad though is aging with Anders Svensson getting on now. Stefan Ishizaki though was a standout player in the 2nd half of the season with his goals and assists that helped Elfsborg into 4th place.
They have a bright future with Johan Larsson particularly impressive. Their experienced squad though is aging as mentioned with Teddy Lucic retiring and Svensson now 34. They will need to keep hold of Denni Avdic, who had a fantastic season in front of goal but he could be tempted with a move abroad.

Orebro 2010

2010 will be looked on as a great season for Orebro. In the end they finished well clear in 3rd place but the gap between themselves and the front two will have to be addressed. They have though made though decisions and with European football next season can this squad handle the pressure of more games. Just like other sides their young talented players will be looked upon by suiters abroad which could hamper their hopes for 2011 which should be consolidate their European ambitions and challenge for the title maybe.
Alejandro Bedoya, Markus Astvald and Nordin Gerzic were sensational this year but defense at times remains shaky and the departure of Patrik Anttonen will have to be filled properly. Sixten Bostrom's future could also be a worry.

Helsingborgs 2010

Helsingborgs will be disappointed with 2010 after the promising signs in the spring. The were the early pace-setters and without the distraction of European football they should've close the challenge of Malmo out.
To their credit they did secure the Svenska Cupen with victory over Hammarby but the big positive was the goalscoring of summer recruit Alexander Gerndt from Gefle. Gerndt was called up to the national side last month with a fantastic season as he ended as top scorer. Helsingborgs will have to hold out offers from abroad for him if they are to challenge for the title next season.
They are another young side with Erik Sundin promising and this side will get experience from 2010.

Malmo 2010

Malmo were just brilliant in 2010. They started off well along with Helsingborgs keeping pace with them until finally breaking past to secure the title for the first time since 2004. This triumph though was on the basis of a young squad that came up through the ranks.
Dnaiel Larsson though had a splendid season taking over from where he left off in the latter part of 2009 in scoring goals for fun. Agon Mehmeti had his best season since bursting on the scene in 2008 while Johan Dahlin was at times the best keeper in the league.
It will be a challenge for Malmo to keep hold of their best players and as seen with AIK last season things can change fast. The Champions league beckons for the club and should they keep their best players they could finally end Sweden's duck of not having a team in the group stage for well over a decade.

Fixtures out next Wednesday

The 2011 fixtures for the Allsvenskan will be released next Wednesday at the fixture meeting with all 16 clubs. With confirmation already on the start date and end date all that is needed is the fixtures.
The Superettan fixtures are released next Friday the 17th while all leagues below will be released within three weeks.

Bassombeng leaves Orebro

Cameroon winger Eric Bassombeng has left Orebro to join GAIS. The news follows months of speculation surrounding Bassombeng's future.
Bassombeng joined the club in 2008 where in his first season was part of the side that turned the season round from relegation battlers to top half contenders. 2009 though was difficult for Bassombeng as the arrival of Alejandro Bedoya and others limited his playing time. Finally in 2010 speculation about a loan move away was rife but Bassombeng has now agreed to join GAIS for 2011. Bassombeng joins the likes of Astrit Ajdarevic, Patrik Anttonen, Roni Porokara, Anthony Flood and Paulinho Guará heading out of the club.
In other news surrounding Orebro, winger Markus Astvald has signed a new three-year contract. The news comes after a superb season for Astvald in which he played a key role in Orebro's 3rd place finish this season.

2011 Start

The league has confirmed that the 2011 Allsvenskan campaign will begin on April 10th. This year the league started three weeks earlier than normal to allow the break for the world cup but next season will be back to normal with an April kick-off.
The season does end quiet early with the final round of fixtures to be played on October 23rd. After that are the play-offs for promotion and relegation.
As for the fixtures themselves, the fixture congress will be held later this month to announce the fixtures for 2011 in the Allsvenskan, Superettan and lower leagues.

Copa Del Sol on the cards

The Copa del Sol will be on the agenda in the new year which will include IFK Goteborg being pitted against some of the best sides from Eastern Europe.
The tournament which will begin on January 27th through to the 7th of February could feature Romanians Rapid Bucuresti, Russians Spartak Moskva and Ukrainians Shakhtar Donetsk. Rosenborg are also considering joining after the Tippeligaen declined an offer to relaunch the Royal League.

Sweden 0-0 Germany November 17th 2010

Sweden and Germany drew blanks at the Gamla Ullevi on Wednesday night in which the Germans bought a new young team with them.
Having impressed during the world cup this new German side featured the likes of Lewis Holtby who has impressed for Mainz this season while Marcel Schmelzer also featured for the away side.
Sweden called up Alexander Gerndt to the squad after his fantastic year for both Gefle and Helsingborgs while Erik Hamrén also called up Rosenborg's Mikael Lustig as he prepares for the next qualifer in the Euro 2012 campaign against Moldova in March.
The game was played in the cold Goteborg air in November but did give an idication that work is still needed if Sweden are to rise and qualifier for Euro 2012.

Halmstads looking for new manager

Halmstads on the back of their below par season are looking for a new manager after Lasse Jocobsson was sacked.
No big names as of yet have been linked with the post after it was known on Saturday that Jacobsson was going to be sacked after a disasterous season in charge.
Whoever does come in will have to build a new side after it was announced earlier this month that Emir Kujovic was joining Kayserispor in Turkey. Kujovic joins Per Johansson and Dutchman Alexander Prent through the exit doors at the Orjans Vall.

Gefle 2-0 GIF Sundsvall 14th November 2010

Gefle will play in the Allsvenskan in 2011 after they overcame the challenge of GIF Sundsvall last Sunday. Gefle were just too strong for their Superettan visitors and with a 1-0 lead from the first leg they were always going to be favourites.
Jakob Orlov was bought down in the area on 51 minutes with the resulting spot-kick being converted by Daniel Theorin. Gefle made sure of their top flight status on 80 minutes when Hjalmar Ohagen's shot on the turn beat Tommy Naurin. Fustration for GIF Sundsvall who also had Hannes Sigurdsson sent-off late on as they stay in the Superettan for another season.

Ajdarevic leaves Orebro

Orebro have been dealt a big blow ahead of their Europa League campaign next summer with the news that midfielder Astrit Ajdarevic has left the club. Ajdarevic, who only signed for the club in July was one of the key players that secured the club European football for next season. The former Liverpool academy player was attracting interest from Malmo and others.
On Friday Ajdarevic signed a 4-year contract with Allsvenskan newcomers IFK Norrkoping. The signing is a major boost for IFK as they prepare for their first Allsvenskan season since 2008.

GIF Sundsvall 0-1 Gefle 10th November 2010

Gefle will take a 1-0 lead back with them for Sunday's 2nd leg after they scraped victory in Sundsvall.
The goal on the night came from Jakob Orlov who continues his impressive season and saved Gefle yet again. GIF Sundsvall who missed out on automatic promotion played well for periods and did have chances. It was a scrapy affair that featured just the one Orlov strike but the tie is finely poised going into Sunday.

Superettan play-offs 2nd legs

Osters 2-1 Qviding:
Osters secured their Superettan place for 2011 after they beat Qviding for the 2nd time in a week. Up 2-0 from the first leg Osters were favourites to see out the game and despite going down to an Anton Holmberg goal mid-way through the 2nd half, Osters fought back with two goals in the last four minutes from Daniel Petersson and Matteo Blomqvist-Zampi.

Jonkoping Sodra 3-0 Sirius:
Jonkoping also secured their Superettan place with victory over Sirius. Robert Walker got J-Sodra the killer 2nd goal over the two legs with a nice header before Tommy Thelin and Par Cederqvist added two more goals to secure a 4-0 win on aggregate.

Malmo 2-0 Mjallby 7th November 2010

Malmo are the 2010 Allsvenskan champions after they did what was needed and beat Mjallby while Helsingborgs could only draw with Kalmar.
Jiloan Hamad put the champaigne on ice when he broke the deadlock on 17 minutes and the stadium erupted when Agon Mehmeti capped off his best season so far with a 2nd goal on the half-time whistle.
Mjallby were no match as the new champions played like champions and ended up with 67 points in the final table. That total is the highest amount of points by an Allsvenskan side since the 16-team format was abopted at the end of the 2007 season.

Helsingborgs 0-0 Kalmar 7th November 2010

It came down to the final day and it was a must game for Helsingborgs. Instead they had to settle for 2nd place after they couldn't find a way past an organised Kalmar side. Kalmar who themselves were champions just two years ago shut-up shop to frustrate Helsingborgs. As it turned out it wouldn't of mattered if Helsingborgs put nine past Kalmar they still needed Malmo to drop points. Instead it was Helsingborg who dropped the points as Malmo were victorious to claim the title and the champions league place that went with it.
They can look at the positives in which Alexander Gerdnt won the golden boot with his inpressive 20 goals which he got with Gefle and Helsingborgs.

Elfsborg 1-0 GAIS 7th November 2010

Elfsborg finally secured 4th place as a Martin Andersson goal won the game for Elfsborg. GAIS though we good at times but unlucky not to come away from the Boras Arena with a point to end their season.
Elfsborg a disappointing season that promised much while GAIS a season that was up and down and will hope for better next season.

Trelleborgs 1-0 Orebro 7th November 2010

Trelleborgs ended the season with four staight wins as they reached 5th place to cap a fantastic season for the club. They ended with a 1-0 win over Europa League bound Orebro as their opponents took it easy it appeared after Europe was confirmed. Trelleborgs deserve credit for they way they went about securing their highest league position as a Joakim Sjohage goal four minutes from time won the game for Trelleborgs.
The game was also a special one for Bertin Zé Ndille as he played his final game for Orebro before his departure in this winter. The fans' favourite played well and will be missed. A great achievment for Trelleborgs considering their start to the season.

BK Hacken 5-0 IF Brommpojkarna 7th November 2010

IF Brommpojkarna's two year stay in the top flight finally came to an end as they collapsed against BK Hacken.
BK Hacken whos season has been up and down certainly ended on a high as they ran out 5-0 winners over their relegated opponents. John Chibuike was the star of the first half as he opened the scoring on 7 minutes. Five minutes later he was celebrating his 2nd as he made it 2-0.
Mikkel Jensen was the unfortunate one to make it 3-0 as his own goal ended the hopes of getting something out of the game for IF Brommapojkarna.
Mathias Ranégie made it 4-0 with a nice finish on 75 minutes before Pontus Segerstrom was shown red in the last minute which allowed Paulinho to convert the penalty to end the season with a thumping 5-0 win.

Djurgarden 0-2 Halmstads 7th November 2010

With Europe gone Djurgarden had nothing really to play for. Halmstads were also safe from the drop. A dead rubber game but a game that Halmstads took to their advantage.
Michael Gorlitz put them in front on 42 minutes which delighted the band of away fans in the Stadion.
Those fans were singing again when Joe Sise made it 2-0 on 66 minutes and ended the game as a contest against a Djurgarden side that were just playing out the minutes in a disappointing season but improvement from last year.

IFK Goteborg 2-2 Gefle 7th November 2010

Gefle managed to force themselves into this week's relegation play-off after they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 and ultimately saved themselves for a week at least.
IFK took a 13th minute lead through Adam Johansson which made Gefle nervy before Tobias Sana made it 2-0 seven minutes later with a superb strike from outside the area.
Gefle kept on beleiving and it was evident especially in the 2nd half as they got down on played. Jakob Orlov who has saved Gefle so many times this season pulled them back into the game on 55 minutes.
Up until three minutes from time Gefle were going to be relegated. That was until Dragan Kapcevic levelled. The final whistle saw Gefle get the news that Atvidabergs only drew which meant Gefle were given a 2nd chance to avoid going down.

Atvidabergs 1-1 AIK 7th November 2010

As it turned out it wasn't enough for Atvidabergs. With Gefle earning a point away to IFK, Atvidabergs went down by vitue of goal difference. The game itself was either way was AIK took the lead on 47 minutes thanks to Goran Ljubojevic. The Croat who joined the club earlier this year finishing his season on a high.
With fifteen minutes remaining Viktor Prodell drew Atvidabergs level but on another day his goal could've saved Atvidabergs from the drop. AIK's season ends but it will be one they will want to forget.

The done deals so far this winter

With one round of mathes left in the Allsvenskan clubs are doing bussiness already with some new signings and players leaving.
One player that returns to the Allsvenskan is Joel Riddez. Riddez formally of Orebro joins Djurgarden from Stromgodset in Norway and will reinforce the Djurgarden backline which has at times this season looked shaky.
Emir Kujovic will leave Halmstads for Turkey during the winter. Kujovic has signed a deal with Kayserispor and will join in January.
Dipping into the Superettan one player who is going is Linus Hallenius. Hallenius who kept Hammarby alive is joining Genoa in Italy in January and will be a massive loss for Bajen.

Superettan Play-offs 1st Legs

Qviding 0-2 Osters:
Osters are favourites to secure their place in the Superettan next season after they overcame Qviding away from home. Freddy Borg was the hero for Osters with two goals to put Osters in a great position ahead of the 2nd leg in Vaxjo on Sunday.

Sirius 0-1 Jonkoping Sodra:
A tight game was decided by a single goal from Jonkoping's star man Par Cederqvist. Cederqvist will be hoping he is in form on Sunday to secure J-Sodra's place in the Superettan for next season. A tight game which is not over yet.

IF Brommapojkarna 0-4 Malmo 1st November 2010

IF Brommapojkarna are very much down after this result which helped Malmo go into the final day with advantage of goal difference.
In fairness Malmo were clinical which IF Brommapojkarna had no answer to. They did keep them out until the hour mark when Jeffery Aubynn broke the deadlock before Agon Mehmeti made it 2-0 and safe on 79 minutes. Dardan Rexhapi, getting some good reviews recently made it 3-0 on 83 minutes after coming off the bench before Daniel Andersson put a bit of gloss on the score with a fourth which all but sends Brommapojkarna down. Malmo the favourites for the title now after this result.

Orebro 2-1 IFK Goteborg 1st November 2010

Orebro's European place for next year has already been decided but this win meant they will finish way in front of the chasing pact in 3rd place but still quiet a bit behind the title chasers Malmo and Helsingborgs. This defeat for IFK ends their hopes of reaching the Europa League for next season.
Astrit Ajdarevic, another player who is a contendor for signing of the season put Orebro in front after 65 minutes. Ajdarevic has recently been linked with a move to Malmo so this goal will just up the speculation.
Nordin Gerzic put the game beyond IFK in added time before IFK scored with Stefan Selakovic. A disappointing end to a disappointing season for IFK who have pride to play for on Sunday while Orebro end their home campaign with a fine win.

Mjallby 2-1 Atvidabergs 1st November 2010

Mjallby's season has been fantastic and the club from the south have a duanting challenge on Sunday if they are to overtake Elfsborg and secure European football for 2011.
This however was a good result as they beat the other newly promoted club this year Atvidabergs. It was their struggling visitors though, who took the lead through Paulus Roiha after barely six minutes.
Mjallby took time to get going but did draw level on 64 minutes thanks to Adam Berner's finish before they secured the three points with Marcus Ekenberg's goal three minutes from time. Next up for Mjallby is title chasing Malmo which will be though. Atvidabergs' top flight status will be decided on Sunday where they must win.

AIK 2-0 Elfsborg 31st October 2010

AIK secured their Allsvenskan status with a third win in succesion as they ended the possibility of relegation just a year after they secured the double. Mohamed Bangura who in the last five months has been possibly the signing of the season put AIK in front on 50 minutes. Elfsborg who have European football on their minds went 2-0 down on 75 minutes as Viktor Lundberg secured the win and AIK's place in the league next season.
Elfsborg will qualify for the Europa League if they win on sunday no matter what Mjallby manage if anything against Malmo.

Halmstads 2-4 Helsingborgs 31st October 2010

Helsingborgs ensured they were not to fall in the penultimate hurdle as they ousted Halmstads 4-2 at the Orjans Vall. The game was over as a contest early on as Rasmus Jonsson put Helsingborgs ahead after 18 minutes. May Mahlangu made it 2-0 on 23 minutes to continue his fine form of late before Alexander Gerndt made it 3-0 on 64 minutes. Within a minute Jonsson grabbed a brace as he put Helsingborgs 4-0 to the good and secured the three points.
Halmstads did muster two goals with the first coming on 83 minutes through Anselmo. Anselmo who hasn't quiet managed to repeat his scoring feats this year got his 2nd of the night with two minutes remaining to make it 4-2 with a thunderous volley. Halmstads need to win on Sunday to confirm their stay in the league.

Kalmar 1-3 BK Hacken 31st October 2010

Kalmar's hopes of reaching Europe are over after they slumped to a 3-1 defeat at home to BK Hacken. BK Hacken whose season has been one of what might have been are ending strongly.
Johan Bertilson put the hosts ahead as they chased the victory that would've kept alive their Europa League hopes but BK Hacken were level on 33 minutes as Ludwig Ohman put through his own net.
The game was open for who wanted to win and the next goal arrived on 71 minutes when Mathias Ranégie pounced to put BK Hacken in front. Ranégie who has disappeared from scoring for a little while got his 2nd nine minutes later as he extinguished the chance of Kalmar winning and their Europa League hopes.
BK Hacken secure their Allsvenskan status with this win.

Gefle 2-2 Djurgarden 31st October 2010

Gefle's future in the Allsvenskan is hanging by a thread after they were held to a draw by Djurgarden. In fact it was Gefle who had to squeeze a draw. Christer Youssef put the visitors ahead after just seven minutes which resulted in a silence around the Stromvallen.

Jakob Orlov who has did himself proud this season pulled Gefle level on 54 minutes. The game was no there for Gefle to take and help their relegation fears. Instead it was Djurgarden who scored with Kennedy Igboananike scoring. Igboananike helping his side to secure Europe after his winner last week.

Prince Ikpe Ekong often scoring for Djurgarden scored the crucial equiliser for Gefle with an own goal which ends Djurgarden's hopes of reaching Europe while for Gefle their hopes of avoiding the drop are in the balance going into the final day on Sunday.

GAIS 1-3 Trelleborgs 30th October 2010

Trelleborgs made it three wins from three after they came from behind to beat GAIS. It started well from GAIS, however when they took a 27th minute lead through Jonas Lindberg.
It appeared to be going well from then on for GAIS as they looked like they had control with Trelleborg unable to muster any clear cut chances. Trelleborgs did keep on knocking though in the 2nd half and waited patiently for a break.
That break arrived on 77 minutes as Fredrik Lundgren saw red. Kristian Haynes responded instantly to draw Trelleborgs level. Trelleborgs then took the lead just six minutes later as Haynes got his 2nd of the game. GAIS were shelshocked and conceded a third goal in added time as Magnus Andersson wrapped up the three points for Trelleborgs.
With just a game left for Trelleborgs they are three points behind Elfsborg in 4th place but they need a very unlikely series of results over the next two days to have a realistic chance of making it to the Europa League. GAIS meanwhile are still not safe from relegation.

Ajdarevic on the move?

Orebro's Astrit Ajdarevic is subject to rumours of a move to Malmo. The club signed Ajdarevic as a free agent back in July after he was released from Leicester City. He became a key player for Orebro as they secured Europa League football next season.
Title-chasing Malmo are interested in the player but weather he moves or not it is a sign of how well he has performed this season.
Ajdarevic's contract could be a stumbling block for Malmo. Sources claim he is tied to a 3 year deal which having just signed in July has at least another two left to run.

Svenska Cupen semi-final

Helsingborgs will play Hammarby in the final of the Svenska Cupen after they overcaem Mjallby on Thursday night in the 2nd semi-final.
Mjallby were doing well to keep Helsingborgs out of their goal but the deadlock was broken on 63 minutes as Erik Sundin followed up with another goal in the past week. That settled Helsingborgs and meant Mjallby had to come and attack.
They had further chances but when Markus Holgersson made it 2-0 to the Allsvenskan title-challengers the game was up for Mjallbty and their won't be a cup final to cap what has been a fantastic season for the club.
Helsingborgs will face Hammarby on the 13th November and by then they could be chasing the double.

Svenska Cupen semi-final

Hammarby have reached the final of the Svenska Cupen after a roller-coaster tie at home to Kalmar. The game itself ended 2-2 and the resulting spot-kicks saw Hammarby come out on top.
Marcus Tornstrand put the Superettan side ahead after 25 minutes before Sebastian Castro-Tello made it 2-0 to the hosts on 42 minutes. Hammarby were coasting and looked to have secured their place in the final until Daniel Sobralense's goal on 76 minutes made it a nervy final fifteen minutes.
The nerves showed as Erik Israelsson levelled the scores at 2-2 on 83 minutes. There was no winner in extra-time and the game went to spot kicks which saw Hammarby win 6-5. Hammarby await the winners of Helsingborgs v Mjallby which is on tomorrow night.

Superettan play-off dates

The Promotion/relegation play-offs in the Superettan have been decided and the four teams will play over two legs to decide the places in the 2011 campaign.

Sunday 31st October:
Qviding v Osters
Sirius v Jonkoping Sodra

Sunday 7th November:
Osters v Qviding
Jonkoping Sodra v Sirius

The two winners are in the Superettan in 2011 while the losers go to the division 1.

BK Hacken 0-4 Malmo 27th October 2010

Malmo are back on top after they easily deposed of the challenge of BK Hacken at the Rambergsvallen. The game as a contest was over after 25 minutes by which Malmo raced into a 2-0 lead courtosy of goals from Daniel Larsson and Guillermo Molins.
The 2nd half was the same story with two goals late in the half from Yago Fernández to finish the game and ensure Malmo go back to the summit and with a healthy goal difference with just two games remaining.

Orebro 1-1 IF Brommapojkarna 25th October 2010

Orebro have qualified for the Europa League for next season after this 1-1 draw confirmed they can't be caught in 3rd place. At the opposite side of this result though, IF Brommapojkarna are all but gone from the Allsvenskan. hey can still avoid the drop via the play-offs but need a miracle to stay up via league position.
They took an early lead when Joakim Runnemo put them ahead but they couldn't hold on for a priceless victory. They conceded a penalty when Astrit Ajdarevic's volley was handled in the box and the former Liverpool academy player converted the resulting spot kick.
Later in the 2nd half IF Brommapojkarna had Pontus Segerstrom sent-off to comfound their problems.

IFK Goteborg 1-2 Trelleborgs 25th October 2010

A great win for Trelleborgs as they made the journey up the west coast to IFK. Things didn't get off to a great start though as Tobias Hysén put the hosts ahead. The southerners though did level on 54 minutes when Joakim Nilsson struck. Their night went from good to great when Marcus Pode hit the winner on 84 minutes as Trelleborgs took all three points.
IFK's hopes of Europe hit with this defeat while Trelleborgs are up to 9th and actually have a faint chance of the last Europa league spot but it would need a miracle. Trelleborg's status in the Allsvenskan is also secured after this result.

Halmstads 1-2 AIK 25th October 2010

AIK got a crucial victory as they beat fellow strugglers Halmstads 2-1. The game was akey game in the relegation battle and pulls AIK three points away from the play-off spot with two games to go. Halmstads are also just three points off 14th.
The opening goal was scored by AIK crucially thanks to Viktor Lundberg midway through the 2nd half. Kenny Pavey made it 2-0 five minutes after Lundberg's opener from the spot as AIK raced into a 2-0 lead.
Late on Anselmo struck for the Orjans Vall side but it wasn't enough to avoid defeat for Halmstads and now they need to win their remaining games to preserve their top flight status as do AIK.

First Allsvenskan relegation tonight?

The first relegation from the Allsvenskan could happen tonight but it does need scenarios to play-out.
Bottom club IF Brommapojkarna will be down should they fail to beat Orebro away tonight. To confirm relegation though should they lose they will need AIK to lose at home to Halmstads to keep them in the hunt of avoiding the drop.
A win for Halmstads tonight against AIK will gurantee their place in the Allsvenskan next season.

Relegation:
IF Brommapojkarna, Gefle, Atvidabergs, AIK, Halmstads and GAIS are the the sides definetely involved in the scrap while BK Hacken have a small chance of going down but unlikely.
The race to avoid the drop is going to be exciting as always especially since AIK, last season's champions could be playing in the Superettan a year and a half on. Some key games over the next two weeks for all sides.

Tonight:
Orebro v IF Brommapojkarna
Halmstads v AIK

Sunday:
Gefle v Djurgarden
Halmstads v Helsingborgs
AIK v Elfsborg

Next Monday:
IF Brommapojkarna v Malmo
Mjallby v Atvidabergs

7th November:
BK Hacken v IF Brommpojkarna
Djurgarden v Halmstads
IFK Goteborg v Gefle
Atvidabergs v AIK

Absolutely crucial games and the final day sees Atvidabergs host AIK and if results pan out they way they should to lead to a decider in this game then expect a massive scrap.

IF Brommapojkarna:
They will go down if they lose tonight and AIK win. If not they will go down next Monday should the lose to Malmo.

Gefle:
Gefle will go down if they lose their remaining two games.

Atvidabergs:
Will go down should Gefle win any of their remaining games and they lose both of theirs.

AIK:
AIK will go down if they lose all three of their remaining games and both Gefle and Atvidabergs win their remaining games

Halmstads:
Will go down should they lose all three remaining games and Gefle, Atvidabergs win both of theirs.

A delicate situation but exciting for the neutrals. One thing is for sure it is going to be tight and proberly the tightest of margins will seperate who goes down and who stays up.

Djurgarden 4-4 Elfsborg 24th October 2010

Proberly the match of the season as both sides shared eight goals and took part in a thrilling game. The result though is not the result Elfsborg would've wanted as a win would've ended the race for Europe for the other sides.
Prince Ikpe Ekong put the hosts ahead after 16 minutes before he found the net again but this time for Elfsborg as his own goal on 31 minutes levelled the scores.
Stefan Ishizaki then put the Boras club in front on 50 minutes which seemed to be enough for Elfsborg. Kennedy Igboananike levelled for Djurgarden but he was to turn out to be a factor in the race for Europe later on.
Former Gefle striker Amadou Jawo restored Elfsborg's lead on 63 minutes which again was cancelled out by Peter Gustafsson. Man of the season Denni Avdic again put Elfsborg ahead this time with just fifteen minutes to play.
Kennedy Igboananike did have a say on the matter as his injury time strike kept the race for Europe alive for four other sides including his own. Points dropped and with two games left it is getting heated.

Helsingborgs 3-0 Atvidabergs 24th October 2010

Helsingborgs went three points clear until Monday night at least with a thumping 3-0 win over relegation battlers Atvidabergs at the Olympia.
The result does Atvidabergs' hopes of top tier football in 2011 no favours while for Helsingborgs it puts the pressure on Malmo.
The game was over after twenty minutes when Alexander Gerndt on nine minutes and Erik Sundin twelve minutes later put Helsingborgs 2-0 up.
Erik Sundin added a third goal for the table-toppers on 68 minutes to complete the job and send Atvidabergs back home with their Allsvenskan future in the balance.

Kalmar 1-1 Mjallby 24th October 2010

A result neither wanted as the race for the Europa League places continue with just two games remaining. A European place for Mjallby would be a fantastic acheivement for the club on the south coast having just come up from the Superettan last season.
It was the 2008 Allsvenskan champions however that took the lead, thanks to Ricardo Santos on 56 minutes. The Mjallby rearguard was breached but their Kalmar counterparts were soon going to suffer the same feat when Mostapha El-Kabir struck. El-Kabir who surely will be moving on during the close season kept up his impressive season.
A draw with Kalmar up to 7th and five points from the last Europa league place with Mjallby in 5th and closer at four points adrift.

Gefle 1-0 GAIS 24th October 2010

Gefle will not be going down just yet. They managed to claw out a victory when they needed it most and a victory that could be worth more than just the three points today.
The hero on a very chilly afternoon in Gavle was Jakob Orlov who's strike on 39 minutes won the game. GAIS didn't really get going until the 2nd half when they had a couple of half-chances. The result though means that Gefle are in 15th with two to play. GAIS are 11th and not out of the relegation woods yet.

Superettan

The Superettan ended with Syrianska taking the title after they beat relegated Vasby United 3-0. The goals coming from Yusef Saleh and a double from Peter Ijeh. That result coupled with IFK Norrkoping's 1-1 draw at GIF Sundsvall meant they took the title and not Norrkoping. Although both can be happy with their seasons both would've wanted to go up as champions.
Elsewhere the standout result of the final day was Jonkoping Sodra beating Landskrona BoIS 4-1. J-Sodra will be in the relegation play-offs but on that form they will stay up.
Hammarby's season of woe ended with defeat at home to Orgryte with a last-minute winner from Alex Mellqvist. Osters put FC Trollhatten out of their misery and sent them down with a 2-1 win while Degerfors hit Ljungskile for five in a 5-3 win.

Results:
Jonkoping Sodra 4-1 Landskrona BoIS
Hammarby 1-2 Orgryte
Degerfors 5-3 Ljungskile
Vasby United 0-3 Syrianska
FC Trollhatten 1-2 Osters
IFK Norrkoping 1-1 GIF Sundsvall
IK Brage 1-1 Falkenberg
Assyriska 3-1 Angelholm

Final Table:
  1. Syrianska (56 points)
  2. IFK Norrkoping (56)
  3. GIF Sundsvall (51)
  4. Assyriska (46)
  5. Landskrona BoIS (45)
  6. Ljungskile (44)
  7. Falkenberg (44)
  8. Hammarby (43)
  9. Orgryte (42)
  10. Degerfors (42)
  11. IK Brage (41)
  12. Angelholm (37)
  13. Jonkoping Sodra (36)
  14. Osters (29)
  15. FC Trollhatten (23)
  16. Vasby United (18)

Suprettan final day

The Suprettan finishes today with everything nearly sorted. The last automatic relegation place is yet to be decided with FC Trollhatten battling against Osters but FC Trollhatten do need a miracle to overcome that goal difference.
The title is up for grabs between IFK Norrkoping and Syrianska. Syrianska are not actually confirmed as being promoted yet as GIF Sundsvall are just three points behind. They will be promoted by the end of today as they go to relegated Vasby United. A draw will be enough for Syrianska to go up but they would like to go up as champions. IFK Norrkoping are home to GIF Sundsvall and with a play-off spot guaranteed for Sundsvall this game will decide the title. Syrianska should win at Vasby so Norrkoping will have to win to confirm they go up to the Allsvenskan as champions.

Relegation is decided with the exception of the miracle FC Trollhatten need to sneak into the play-offs ahead of Osters. Vasby United are down while Jonkoping Sodra will be in the play-offs.
Elsewhere the two relegated clubs from the Allsvenskan last season do battle at the Soderstadion with Hammarby facing Orgryte. Hammarby's season has been poor with no real chance of promotion and crowd problems effecting the club. Orgryte have also suffered in the doldrums this season.

Fixture in full:
Jonkoping Sodra v Landskrona BoIS
Hammarby v Orgryte
Degerfors v Ljungskile
Vasby United v Syrianska
FC Trollhatten v Osters
IFK Norrkoping v GIF Sundsvall
IK Brage v Falkenberg
Assyriska v Angelholm

Top Scorers:
Linus Hallenius has the award pretty much sown up with his 18 goals this season. The former GIS Sundsvall hit-man has been the only shining light really at Hammarby this season. It is expected that he may well move on this winter to the Allsvenskan with a number of clubs monitoring him.
Peter Ijeh has also been in a great form this season. The Nigerian has notching up 15 goals in Syrianska's brillient season in which they will be promoted. The former Viking forward has his chance to grace the Allsvenskan in 2011.
Par Cederqvist has done exceptionally well this season for struggling Jonkoping Sodra. The forward who has 14 goals this season going into today has been the leading light at Jonkoping. Should Jonkoping Sodra lose in the play-offs expect Cederqvist to move on.

GAIS 0-1 Orebro 20th October 2010

Orebro have all but asured themselves of European football next season after a 1-0 success at GAIS. The goal came from Tommy Lycén who deflected in on 15 minutes which sets Orebro up nicely with just three games to play.
GAIS are still in the trouble at the bottom and need realistically one more victory to all but secure their Allsvenskan status for 2011.

Elfsborg 1-3 Helsingborgs 18th October 2010

Helsingborgs are level on points with Malmo. After Malmo were beaten last night, Helsingborgs did what they had to do and beat Europa League chasing Elfsborg 3-1 away to climb level. They opened the scoring on a cold night with May Mahlangu putting the title hopefuls in front on 12 minutes.
Mathias Florén levelled on the half-time whistle with Stefan Ishizaki involved in the build-up. Helsingborgs though are built of strong stuff these days and went ahead on 58 minutes when Erik Sundin pounced to planty past Jesper Christiansen. The game and points were effectively sealed on 73 minutes when Sundin got his 2nd. Helsingborgs a good job done last night now the hard work begins.

Malmo 0-1 Kalmar 18th October 2010

Could Malmo have lost the title last night? they looked all set to get at least a point until four minutes from time. The sky-blues have been impressive this season with their style of play and young squad but this could be a big defeat in the title race. Helsingborgs were also victorious last night which means they are both tied neck and neck on 58 points with just three to play. The only goal tonight came from Daniel Mendes as former champions Kalmar came away from the Swedbank Arena with all three points.

Lower leagues stories

Division 1 Norra:
The 3rd tier has had some twists and turns which had seen Hammarby TFF looking likes certaintees for promotion but Vasteras rallied and have won promotion instead with TFF slipping down into 4th. The play-off spot is gone to Sirius as they look to get back into the Supprettan. Relegation is nearly sorted with Arameisk-Syrianska, Bodens IF and BK Forward still in with a shout of avoiding the drop.

Division 1 Sodra:
Promotion not sorted yet with Qviding and IFK Varnamo fighting for the automatic spot. IF Sylvia are not out of the play-off reckoning yet with two games to play.
Relegation has been confirmed for two with Ytterby and Torslanda down to Division 2. Vastra Frolunda still have a chance of sneaking away from relegation. They do need to win by 10 goals over the course of their next two games and win to avoid the drop though.

Division 2 promotions:
Norra Svealand: Frej
Norrland: IFK Lulea
Ostra Gotaland: Motala
Sodra Goteland: Varberg
Sodra Svealand: Akropolis
Vastra Gotaland: Oddevold

IFK Norrkoping promoted

IFK Norrkoping are promoted to the Allsvenskan for next season. The side last played in the top division in 2008 when they finished bottom having only been promoted a year previous. One of the great names in Swedish football the club hope that this time they can push on an emulate the likes of Mjallby, Orebro and Trelleborg in prolonged stays in the top flight.
They won promotion after GIF Sundsvall in 3rd could only draw yesterday at home to relegation threatend FC Trollhatten and they themselves beat Angelholms away 2-1.
Elsewhere 2nd placed Syrianska will also be promoted if the avoid defeat on the final day which is against relegated Vasby United away. GIF Sundsvall have confirmed their place in the play-off with the draw with FC Trollhatten.
Down the table the final relegation issues will be sorted with FC Trollahtten needing a miracle to avoid the drop. FC Trollhatten will be going down with Vasby United with Osters and Jonkoping Sodra contesting in the play-offs with 2nd placed Division Norra side Sirius and one of IFK Varnamo and IF Sylvia in Division Sodra.

AIK 2-0 Gefle 16th October 2010

AIK got a vital win thanks to goals from summer signing Goran Ljubojevic and Mohamed Bangura who has had a fantastic season personally since signing in July. They were being fustrated before the goals however as they came up against an in-form Mattias Hugosson in the Gefle goal.
This defeat doesn't do Gefle's hopes of avoiding the drop any good while AIK still have work to do if they are to avoid going down.

Denni Avdic's season

Denni Avdic is having a super season. The Elfsborg hit-man has been lashing in the goals this season and sits out with Alexander Gerndt at the top of the scoring charts. With 18 strikes currently to his name the Bosnian-born Swedish international is making a name for himself.
Avdic could be in line for a move abroad as with many that have gone before him. Denni has also been attracting the attention of Bosnia's national side. Despite having actually played for Sweden he is still eligable to play for Bosnia. A winner of the Allsvenskan in 2006 it looks like Denni will be moving on this winter possibly.

Six games to go

The season has six games to run and still nothing has been decided and sealed. The title race is again looking likely in going down to the final day with Helsingborgs and Malmo practically inseperable. The relegation issue is extremely tight that literally includes six sides. The battle for Europe is also heating up in the crisp air.

Title Race:
The title race has featured two sides for the majority of the season with Helsingborgs top and Malmo close behind. In recent weeks Helsingborgs slipped and Malmo levelled. At the moment it is Malmo who are top by goal difference but there are some very big games coming up for both sides.
Tomorrow Malmo host IFK Goteborg in a though game while Helsingborgs go to AIK. The feeling is that if points are to be dropped they will be in this coming round of games. After this round both sides face 'easier' games. Helsingborgs face some tricky away games with trips to Elfsborg and Halmstads in the coming month while Malmo are away to the likes of BK Hacken, Trelleborgs and Brommapojkarna.
The verdict I suppose is that Malmo would win the title. Helsingborgs have a cup final also to focus on as well and have the harder run-in.

Europe:
Europe is surely wrapped up for Malmo and Helsingborgs which leaves two more places up for grabs by half the league. 10th placed Trelleborgs are matimatically still in the race being just nine points off the 4th spot.
Orebro are seven points clear of 5th placed IFK which will take some stoping so logic should say Orebro have the 3rd European place. The scrap for the last European place is not so safe. Elfsborg, IFK, Djurgarden, Kalmar, Mjallby and Trelleborgs have realistic chances of Europe which is going to add to the competition.
Both Mjallby and Trelleborgs are nine points adrift of 4th place and with six games left they are running out of games. Kalmar are two points better off and being seven points behind at this stage is not ideal. IFK and Djurgarden both are on 35 points and four points off so the battle should between them two and Elfsborg with Kalmar possibly having to win every game.
The verdict in this one is that Elfsborg will hold onto their 4th spot and join Orebro in the Europa League next summer.

Relegation:
Relegation is very tight this year. Just like last year it involves some big clubs in the likes of AIK and Halmstad. AIK have had a turbulent year and can't be ruled out from going down. Currently in the bottom three are Brommapojkarna, Gefle and Atvidabergs and with it so tight the likes of AIK, Halmstads and GAIS are not safe. AIK going down would be surprising at the start of the season but their problems have been on the pitch with poor results while Halmstads haven't had a good run of form all season. Brommapojkarna had a promising start but have had an awful 2nd half to the season while Gefle were struggling even with Alexander Gerndt until July. Atvidabergs have been around the bottom five for the whole season but a good run at this late stage would cap a great escape.
The verdict in this one is Atvidabergs, Brommapojkarna and Halmstads to go down. AIK will do enough and Gefle will pick up some vital points in their final games.

Malmo 2-0 Helsingborgs 15th September 2010

Malmo took advantage of the clash between the best sides in the Allsvenskan this season as they ran out 2-0 winners at the Swedbank Arena. The game itself, however was very tight and as expected both sides were cautious especially of what was at stake.
Dardan Rexhepi put the hosts ahead in the 17th minute before Malmo continued to carve chances while Helsingborgs were looking to Rasmus Jonsson and Alexander Gerndt. In added time though when Helsingborgs were going out to salvage something from the game Wilton Figueiredo put Malmo 2-0 up and sealed what could be an absolutely vital three points come the end of the season.

Tuesday, August 24, 2010

Orebro 1-0 AIK 23rd August 2010

AIK continue to worry as they slumped to defeat away to Orebro. This defeat was bitter because the winner came in added time when AIK seemed to be content with a draw. Alex Miller's side though couldn't hold out for a draw as Nordin Gerzic's added time strike gave Orebro the win and confined AIK to yet another defeat in a dreadful season for the defending Allsvenskan champions.

Thursday, August 19, 2010

IF Brommapojkarna 0-1 Djurgarden 18th August 2010

A Stockholm derby that ended up with Djurgarden taking the points with a single goal coming from Sebastian Rajalakso just four minutes from time.
the victory was badly needed for Djurgarden as they pull away from the drop zone but IF Brommapojkarna slip in their quest for European football.

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Mjallby 1-0 Orebro 16th August 2010

Mjallby ended up doing the double over Orebro after a 1-0 victory. The goal came from a familiar source this season with Marcus Ekenberg firing past John Alvbage on 74 minutes. Mostapha El-Kabir always looked a threat while Orebro looked to rescue a point with Anthony Flood and Denis Abdulahi coming on.

Atvidabergs 1-1 Halmstads 16th August 2010

Atvidabergs and Halmstads both sides that have had seasons they would proberly want to end sooner rather than later played out a draw with a point not doing much for either side in the increasing heat of the relegation battle.
Jonas Gudni Saevarsson gave the struggling visitors the lead after 31 minutes. That lead lasted just 14 minutes as Paulus Roiha levelled for the hosts.
A point each but the pressure is on for wins.

Trelleborgs 3-2 BK Hacken 16th August 2010

A vital win for Trelleborgs as the basement side recorded victory over BK Hacken. The game itself was quiet entertaining with five goals shared between the two.
The game was Trelleborgs the lose after Magnus Andersson put them ahead on 34 minutes before Kristian Haynes made it 2-0 four minutes later.
To complete a fine six minutes for the hosts Andreas Wihlborg made it 3-0 and form there BK Hacken came into the game more.
Just before half-time BK Hacken pulled one back with Mathias Ranégie getting himself on the score-sheet.
An injury time goal from Ranégie ensured a nervous few minutes for Trelleborgs but they held out for three points that could come in handy in two months.

Monday, August 16, 2010

IFK Goteborg 0-0 Helsingborgs 15th August 2010

Helsingborgs dropped two points in the title race after IFK fustrated the title hopefuls at the Gamla Ullevi. A game that saw both sides reduced to ten men ended up in a fair draw but a draw that Helsingborgs will be more disappointed with.
Markus Sandberg was sent-off for the hosts on 58 minutes but was soon followed by his oppositie number Joel Ekstrand who now misses the next three games which are crucial for Helsingborgs.

Malmo 2-0 Gefle 15th August 2010

Title chasing Malmo continued their fine form with a 2-0 success at home to struggling Gefle. The game and three points were secured after 54 minutes when Agon Mehmeti made it 2-0 after Daniel Larsson put them in front after the half-hour. Gefle will be looking for some wins that will secure them their top-flight status but at the moment they need key man Jakob Orlov to shine between now and November.

Sunday, August 15, 2010

AIK 1-0 GAIS 14th August 2010

AIK's better 2nd half of the season took another turn for the better with a 1-0 win over GAIS. The victory was secured thanks to a single strike from Kenny Pavey with just three minutes remaining as GAIS looked a good for a point away from home.
The victory means AIK move further clear of trouble into mid-table but still alot more work needed.

Elfsborg 4-1 Kalmar 14th August 2010

Elfsborg stepped up their quest for a Europa league spot with a convincing 4-1 victory over fellow hopefuls Kalmar.
A strong start to the contest saw both sides register a goal after just five minutes with Matias Florén giving the hosts the lead before that man Ricardo Santos levelled for Kalmar.
The 2nd half was all about Elfsborg as goals from Johan Larsson, Denni Avdic and James Keene saw off Kalmar.

Monday, August 9, 2010

Halmstads 1-3 Elfsborg 8th August 2010

Elfsborg capitalized on Orebro's defeat yesterday by beating Halmstads away. All the hard work was done in the first half as Elfsborg went 2-0 up after just eight minutes with goals from Denni Avdic and Stefan Ishizaki.
Martin Andersson was sent-off on 40 minutes however before Avdic made it 3-0 on the stroke of the half-time whistle.
Emir Kujovic pulled a goal back for the bealeaguered home side eith nine minutes to play but Halmstads suffer another home defeat.

Gefle 4-2 Åtvidabergs 8th August 2010

Gefle put another result on Åtvidabergs as they ended up 4-2 winners. Jonas Lantto put the hosts ahead after two minutes before Sebastian Senatore was sent-off four minutes later. Jakob Orlov made it 2-0 to Gefle ten minutes into the 2nd half before Amir Suljic pulled a goal back for the basement side on 75 minutes. Hjalmar Öhagen made it 3-1 five minutes later but were pegged back again by Åtvidabergs at 3-2 when Oscar Möller scored. Dragan Kapcevic sealed victory for Gefle with three minutes to go to give Gefle a vital three points.

BK Häcken 1-5 IFK Göteborg 8th August 2010

The big derby was won empathically by IFK as they continue their flying week. Jonas Henriksson though gave BK Häcken a 4th minute lead which IFK clinically turned around.

Stefan Selakovic, scorer against AZ leveled here on eleven minutes after which Hannes Stiller made it 2-1 on 32 minutes.

The 2nd half bought more goals as Elmar Bjarnason made it 3-1 to the visitors on 58 minutes. Selakovic got his brace on 64 minutes before he completed his fine hat-trick with three minutes remaining.

A signal of intent that IFK are not out of the running for a Europa league spot come the end of the season while BK Häcken need a spirited performance next week.

AIK 2-1 IF Brommapojkarna 8th August 2010

Conditions didn't help the game but AIK won't care after they took all three points in this Stockholm show down courtosy of a last minute winner. Mohamed Bangura put the defending champions ahead after just 4 minutes but that lead only lasted 19 minutes as Pablo Pinones Arce leveled the scores for the visitors.
The game was heading for a draw until Mohamed Bangura won the game for AIK with his injury time strike. Walid Atta tough was sent-off in added time. A vital three points for AIK who are improving on their form.

Kalmar 2-1 Trelleborgs 8th August 2010

A rain soaked Fredriksskans was lifted with a last minute goal from Daniel Mendes that sealed a remarkable turnaround.
Trelleborgs on the back on two straight wins were looking good after Andreas Drugge gave them the lead here on half-time.
Kalmar had fight left in them and leveled the scores with eight minute remaining through Ricardo Santos. Just as it looked as if a draw was the result Daniel Mendes bundled home from a corner in the final seconds to seal the three points for Kalmar. Trelleborgs extremely unlucky not to get at least a point.

Sunday, August 8, 2010

Örebro 0-3 Malmö 7th August 2010

A game Örebro will want to forget but the game did change in that two minute period in the first half in which Malmö went 2-0 up.

The game was tight until Jiloan Hamad made it 1-0 with a strike from outside the area before Jimmy Durmaz, formally with Örebro side BK Forward crossed for Agon Mehmeti to head past John Alvbåge barely two minutes later.

The game was Malmö's as they controlled the passing and needing to get a goal back Astrit Ajdarevic and Anthony Flood were thrown on. Just as Flood entered the pitch Nordin Gerzic was leaving after a deliberate handball which resulted in a penalty. Daniel Larsson, who scored a hat-trick here, last year converted the spot kick to seal a massive three points.

GAIS 3-2 Mjällby 7th August 2010

A game of twists and turns but a game GAIS deserved to win. Mervan Celik headed GAIS into a 38th minute lead before it was doubled by Celik himself from Eyjólfur Hédinsson's delivery.

Mjällby are in the hunt for a European spot on merit and pulled a goal back through leading scorer Marcus Ekenberg on 49 minutes.

Björn Andersson made it 3-1 to GAIS from the spot on 86 minutes before Mjällby got a 2nd through Juan Robledo in added time.

Helsingborgs 3-3 Djurgården 5th August 2010

A draw in a fantastic game at the Olympia, the result though will give Malmö a chance to make some ground on Helsingborgs tomorrow.

It was Djurgården who struck first through Kennedy Igboananike on 42 minutes. Helsingborgs' Marcus Lantz was sent-off which appeared to turn Helsingborgs' evening sour. There was nothing, however sour about new recent signing Alexander Gerndt's evening.

The new signing from Gefle made it 1-1 on 54 minutes before getting his brace three minutes later. Djurgården did hit back and were level on 65 minutes as Matias Jönsson marked another goal since his return. Sharbel Touma struck as Djurgården re-took the lead on 70 minutes. It looked like all three points were going to Djurgården until Gerndt completed his hat-trick to rescue a point for Helsingborgs in added time.

IFK Göteborg 1-0 AZ Alkmaar 5th August 2010

IFK Göteborg are also out of the Europa League despite beating AZ Alkmaar 1-0 at the Gamla Ullevi. Down 2-0 from the first leg in Holland, IFK needed a 3-0 win to advance. They could only manage the one but did at least beat their Dutch opponents.

A single strike from Stefan Selakovic on 67 minutes was enough to seal victory on a night that former favorite Pontus Wernbloom played at the Gamla Ullevi for the first time since leaving IFK last summer.

Levski Sofia 5-2 Kalmar 5th August 2010

Kalmar's European adventure is over for this year as they were beaten 5-2 by Levski Sofia. The final score was flattering because of the two injury time goals for Levski.
Garra Dembélé put the hosts in front after twelve minutes before Daniel Mladenov made it 2-0 on 33 minutes. The result of the tie was put beyond all doubt when Dembélé made it 3-0 on 70 minutes and 4-1 on aggregate.
Kalmar though fought back. First a Mattias Johansson goal made it 3-1 on the night and 4-2 on aggregate before Erik Israelsson made Levski feel a bit nervous at 4-3 on aggregate and 3-2 on the night.
However Levski hit back with two injury time goals from Ismail Isa to seal the tie and Levski's place in the play-off round.

Teteks 1-2 Elfsborg 5th August 2010

Elfsborg completed their tie with Teteks with a 2-1 win in Skopje as they advanced 7-1 on aggregate.
Elfsborg fell behind on the night when Aleksandr Stojanovski put Teteks in front. That was was however as good as it got for Teteks as Elfsborg responded with goals from Elmin Kurbegovic (42) and Amadou Jawo (56) to win the game and go through to Friday's draw.

Thursday, August 5, 2010

Rosenborg 3-0 AIK 4th August 2010

Rosenborg sealed their passage to the play-off round of the champions league by finishing off AIK 3-0 in Trondheim. The score-line might be a bit flattering considering AIK were looking strong in keeping Rosenborg at bay for a full 55 minutes until Radé Prica put Rosenborg in front on the night and 2-0 up over the two games.
Vadim Demidov made it 2-0 on the night on 64 minutes which put AIK 3-0 down and ended their hopes of a comeback. Their night was completed with a third Rosenborg goal from Swede Mikael Lustig. Last year's title-winning keeper Daniel Orlund keep his 2nd clean sheet over the tie as AIK drop to the Europa League.

The game opened in style with Nordin Gerzic giving Örebro the lead after nine minutes with a fantastic strike that could challenge Samuel Wowoah goal against Elfsborg in the goal of the season award. A massive game with Malmö awaits for Örebro while Åtvidabergs need to start getting wins soon.

Trelleborgs have struggled this season but are starting to catch good form. A hard-fought win in Gefle was followed by this effective 1-0 win over Halmstads who are also struggling this season.
The game was neck and neck with neither side prepared to gamble until Matias Adelstam's strike with twelve minutes to go proved to be the decisive goal that gave Trelleborgs the three points.

IF Brommapojkarna 1-3 Helsingborgs 2nd August 2010

Following Malmo's victory yesterday, Helsingborgs responded with the same result as the three points went down west. Helsingborgs though didn't have it all their own way as a Babis Stefanidis goal after two minutes gave IF Brommapojkarna the lead. Stefanidis ironically a Malmo player until last year.
2nd half began in style for Helsingborgs as Rasmus Jonsson leveled scores on 49 minutes. Christoffer Andersson gave the table toppers the lead just two minutes later before Ardian Gashi continued his impressive season with a third goal to complete a memorable five minute period for Helsingborgs.
Sinan Ayranci was sent-off in added time to complete the day for Brommapojkarna who were blown away by that Helsingborgs frenzy.

Elfsborg 1-0 Gefle 1st August 2010

Elfsborg capped off a good week with a 1-0 victory over Gefle that puts them firmly in the race for a Europa League spot for next season.

IFK Göteborg 3-1 Kalmar 2nd August 2010

Just like on the opening day IFK put three past Kalmar and got three points. Kalmar though have a though Europa league tie on Thursday.

Malmö 1-0 GAIS 1st August 2010

Title challengers Malmö are still in the hunt after a narrow win over GAIS. A sole Ivo Pekalski goal on 22 minutes was the only difference between the sides in a tight match. Malmö will be hoping for a slip up by Helsingborgs in their trip to Stockholm tomorrow.

Mjällby 0-0 AIK 31st July 2010

Mjällby can consider themselves unlucky but the result probably was fair as AIK came looking for a vital win to steer them out of trouble. With a massive Champions league tie in Trondheim coming up new boss Alex Miller wasn't keen to rest some players as they need a run of form to improve things at the Råsunda. Miller though might be happy with a point from this as many sides this season have failed to get anything out of trips to Mjällby.

Djurgården 0-3 BK Häcken 31st July 2010

Djurgården's season is beginning to change into a disaster as they were left wondering what happened as BK Häcken walked away with three points and three goals. However the 2nd half was where the goal mouth action happened. The first arrived on 63 minutes with talisman Jonas Henriksson putting the visitors ahead. Djurgården did pressurize but went 2-0 down with nine minutes remaining with Mathias Ranégie making it safe before Paulinho added a third in added time to seal a fine day for BK Häcken. Djurgården you get the feeling we have been here before?

AZ Alkmaar 2-0 IFK Göteborg 30th July 2010

A good tie for both sides, IFK were slight underdogs due to their mixed season so far but did look fresher than their Dutch counterparts at times. However it was a disappointing result for IFK as they were beaten 2-0 on the night with goals from Ragnar Klavan and Johann Gudmundsson both strikes in a five minute period early in the second half. IFK 2-0 down heading into next week's 2nd leg so goals will be the objective. A familar name will also be at the Gamla Ullevi next week too.

Kalmar 1-1 Levski Sofia 29th July 2010

Not the result Kalmar had fancied at the start of the game. Levski Sofia will have the upper hand in Bulgaria where they outplayed Dundalk in the previous round.
Joaozinho was first to hit the target as he put Levski in front after 28 minutes. The Bulgarians came to Kalmar looking for a good result to take home and they certainly got it here.
A late reply from Abiola Dauda salvaged a draw for Kalmar but the hard work starts here as they must win in Sofia to progress.

Elfsborg 5-0 Teteks 29th July 2010

Elfsborg have one leg in the play-off round after a routine 5-0 victory over Macedonians Teteks. The visitors had held out until half an hour when in-form Stefan Ishizaki made it 1-0. Anders Svensson made it 2-0 on 50 minutes with Allsvenskan top-scorer Denni Avdic getting in on the act for 3-0.

AIK 0-1 Rosenborg 28th July 2010

The two champions of Sweden and Norway clashed for the first time in the tie at the Rasunda on Wednesday night with the hope of a place in the play-off round of this year's champions league at stake.
AIK in their familiar black strip were under pressure early on from their Norwegian counterparts the first chance flashing across Ivan Turnia's goal. Playing some good football Rosenborg almost took the lead after 16 minutes through a Stefan Iverssen header before AIK almost scored a spectacular goal minutes later with Niklas Backman.
The only goal of the game, as it turned out arrived on 33 minutes when Markus Henriksen manged to shoot past Turnia after muscling off Daniel Tjernstrom.
The 2nd leg will be a tight affair and this tie is still alive. AIK will have to win in Trondheim next week if they are to advance to the play-off round in August.

Helsingborgs 3-1 BK Häcken 26th July 2010

Beaten for only the 2nd time, last week by BK Häcken, Helsingborgs were not going to let the same feat happened twice. Erik Sundin with his first of the night on 29 minutes levelling the scores before he made it 2-1 to the hosts just after the hour. Orebro 3-0 Elfsborg 26th July 2010

A 3-3 thriller last weekend was followed up by a solid 3-0 victory for Orebro in their quest to secure European football. Elfsborg had been doing well. A changing point was the introduction of Astit Ajdarevic, newly signed by Orebro for Fredrik Nordback who limped off injured.
Roni Porokara came close to finding the first goal before the indrouction of Ajdarevic while Johan Larsson had a glorious chance to put the visitors in front.
Astri Ajdarevic did find the net with a long-range shot that beat Anté Covic in the bottom corner, just before half-time.
The 2nd half produced more as a Samuel Wowoah corner was headed home by Ajdarevic, his 3rd goal in the league since joining on a free transfer earlier this month.
Elfsborg almost found a goal themselves when a dink from Johan Larsson found Amadou Jawo who forced a smart save from John Alvbage.
Marcus Astvald then showed some brillient skill to get past Jon Jonsson put shot wide. Porokara came close again before an absolutely breathtaking goal from Samuel Wowoah left Covic with no chance after he swivled past a couple of players before shooting from 30 yards into the top corner. A goal perfect to win any game.

Kalmar 0-1 Djurgarden 25th July 2010

Fresh from seeing of Dacia in the Europa League, Kalmar returned to domestic action against Djurgarden. The long trip east to Moldova certainly took its toll it appeared on Kalmar who ended up losing after Philip Hellquist, played through by Daniel Sjolund poked the ball over Petter Wasta on 79 minutes.
It turned out to be the winner as Djurgarden move away from the relegation hot-spots to within six points of a Europa league spot.

Gefle 1-3 Trelleborgs 25th July 2010

A relegation six-pointer for both sides as Trelleborgs made their longest away trip this season. A trip up north paid off with a fine 3-1 win. The game got off to a flyer for the away side as Andreas Wihlborg's cross was placed in the bottom corner by on-rushing Mattias Adelstam.
The 2nd goal was very similar to the 1st with Andreas Wihlborg finding Andreas Drugge who made no mistake in planting past Mattias Hugosson.

Halmstads 1-0 IFK Goteborg 25th July 2010

Both sides that could and proberly should be challenging for a Europa League place did battle at the Orjans Vall on Sunday. A tense game between two sides who's seasons' have been hot and cold was always going to be tight and it was the hosts who took all three points.
The decisive goal came on 41 minutes thanks to Mikael Rosén who stabbed home from inside the IFK box. IFK have struggled to match last year's achievement of 2nd place in the Allsvenskan but this defeat moves them closer to the drop zone. Halmstads move to within five points of a Europa league place.

Atvidabergs 0-1 GAIS 24th July 2010

Atvidabergs suffered defeat at the hands of GAIS. In a rain-soaked Kopparvallen the game was going to be tight and only one goal was needed to settle the outcome of this match.
The hosts did come close to taking the lead when a free-kick smacked against the crossbar in the first half but GAIS took their chance when Aram Khalili headed home Kenneth Gustafsson's cross on 74 minutes.
A massive win for GAIS who are now just four points off a Europa league place with this result while Atvidabergs still prop up the table with thirteen points.

IF Brommapojkarna 1-0 Mjallby 24th July 2010

Mjallby's quest for a Europa League spot took a dent on Saturday as it was IF Brommpojkarna who took all three points to stenghten their own quest for a European spot.

Just one goal was needed to settle this game and it came for the home side on 62 minutes when Imad Chhadeh struck from close range from Dalil Benyahia's cross.
Majllby had star man Mostapha El-Kabir sent-off late on before a late free-kick was pushed away by Nordfeldt.

Malmo 1-0 AIK 24th July 2010

Malmo took all three points in a tight encounter at the Swedbank Arena on Saturday as AIK lose again in the league to sink to the relegation zone.
Malmo showed intention from the start when Agon Mehmeti was unlucky when his header came back off the post before Daniel Larsson couldn't apply a finish to a good run.
Mehmeti was proving a tough act for AIK as he somehow got the better of Per Karlsson put his shot was saved by Ivan Turnia.
AIK took a while to settle and an Antonio Flávio effort was as good as it got for them in the first half. Just before the half-time break Jimmy Durmaz profited from a mistake by Antonio Flávio to cross for Mehmeti who touched home for 1-0.
The second half saw more chances for Malmo with Durmaz forcing a good save from Turnia before Mehmeti's header later on flashed agonizingly wide of Turnia's right-hand post. A tame-free kick from Antonio Flávio was the best AIK could muster as Malmo took all three points to close in on Helsingborgs at the top of the table.

Dacia had a big chance in the 61st minute when a free-kick fell to Iulian Bursuc but he scuffed his effort. Kalmar had a couple of dangerous chances with forcing Dacia stopper Eugen Matiughin into a good save late on in the game.

AIK began their champions league campaign with an uninspiring 1-0 win over Luxembourg titleholders Jeunesse Esch. A single strike from Pontus Engblom was enough for AIK to win on the night while also taking a narrow advantage to Luxembourg city next week.
The visitors were content of holding out for a draw and were on course until Engblom drove a shot through Marc Oberweis from a narrow angle undid their resistance.
AIK had other chances to extend their lead Nils-Eric Johansson scuffing his shot from a corner while Antonio Flávio had his shot curling off target. Jeunesse Esch almost found an away goal when Serdo Pupovac was muscled out by Per Karlsson which means Jeunesse Esch have it all to do next week.

Svenska Cupen Round-up July 1st to 5th

1st July:

Hammarby 3-1 Elfsborg: A shock for Elfsborg as they were dumped out of the cup by a superior Hammarby side on the day. The recently relegated Stockholm giants took an early lead through Sebastian Castro-Tello after nine minutes before 2nd half goals from Petter Furuseth and Castro-Tello gave Hammarby a commanding 3-0 lead. Martin Ericsson pulled a goal back for the Allsvenskan side but it is Hammarby who advance to the quarter-finals.

4th July:

Mjällby 4-1 Malmö: Properly the standout result of the last 16 was Mjällby easily progressing to the last 8 with a thumping 4-1 win over Malmö. The game will be remembered for Mostapha El-Kabir's wonder show as he scored all four goals while Malmo had Guillermo Molins pulling a goal back before striker Edward Ofere was sent-off. So Malmö out while Mjällby will be a threat in the last 8.

Ängelholms 1-2 AIK: AIK are still in the hunt to re-claim the Svenska Cupen after surviving a scare here at Superettan side Ängelholms. Kalmar 1-0 EB/Streymur 1st July 2010

Kalmar were frustrated by EB/Streymur as they had Ricardo Santos to thank for getting them this slender advantage to take to the Faroe Islands next week.
A well worked move by Kalmar with some good passing before a through ball was pounced on by Ricardo Santos was the result of the only goal of the game at the Fredriksskans. That goal came in the 79th minute which means that Kalmar will have a narrow lead. EB/Streymur though are not out of this tie yet not by a long shot.

NSÍ Runavík 0-2 Gefle 1st July 2010

Gefle will take a two goal lead back with them to Sweden ahead of next Thursday's 2nd leg in Gavle. Their Faroes opponents did however frustrate Gefle for long periods and it wasn't until 35 minutes in when Alexander Gerndt made it 1-0. Do their credit NSÍ kept their focus until half-time.
Per Olsson's men did make it 2-0 on the hour mark as Gerndt grabbed his 2nd of the game and was taken off soon after. Gefle had chances further on in the game with Frempong and Lantto missing the target but NSÍ could have forced a vital goal on 77 minutes when Károly Potemkin forced Matias Hugosson into action. A good 2-0 win which means that NSÍ Runavík need at least three goals to progress.

Two wins for Sweden in Europa league

The two sides representing Sweden in the 1st Qualifying round of the 2010-11 Europa League both won albeit narrowly.
Gefle travelled to NSÍ Runavík and got a 2-0 win to take home next week while Kalmar did just enough in their 1-0 win over EB/Streymur at the Fredriksskans.
Both sides are in action next Thursday with Gefle hosting NSÍ Runavík while Kalmar travel to the Faroe Islands for the return leg against EB/Streymur.

Svenska Cupen Last 16

IFK Göteborg 3-4 Kalmar: Sunday bought IFK Göteborg and Kalmar together and they didn't disappoint. They ended up playing out a 4-3 thriller with Kalmar advancing to the last 8. It was Kalmar who struck first when Ricardo Santos lashed through. IFK were level though just minutes later thanks to a strike from Tobias Hysén. Two minutes later and Kalmar regained the lead through Erik Israelsson and that lead was doubled when Ricardo Santos tucked away his 2nd of the game. Tobias Sana was sent-off as IFK looked to get back into the game. They made it 3-2 when Icelander Theodór Bjarnason found the net on 77 minutes. Just when time was running out IFK forced extra-time when Jakob Johansson scored in injury time. Kalmar were to have the last laugh as they struck in the 118th minute to dash the hopes of IFK as Marcel Sacramento's goal put Kalmar through.

Ljungskile 0-1 Gefle: Gefle are through to the quarter-finals after a narrow 1-0 win over Suprettan side Ljungskile. Playing in front of a sparse crowd the game wasn't a classic but did have a crucial goal that took Gefle through. That goal arrived in the 69th minute thanks to Alexander Gerndt. Gefle are safely through.

Two more out at AIK

AIK have sold two key players ahead of their champions league campaign next week. Bojan Djordjić and Martin Kayongo-Mutumba have been sold to Hungarians Videoton.

Both players played a key part in AIK's 2009 Allsvenskan success and after those the number of key players from that side sold is now eight after Daniel Örlund, Jos Hooiveld, Jorge Ortíz, Iván Óbolo, Markus Jonsson and Miran Burgič.

AIK though have signed ahead of the resumption of their domestic season with Robert Åhman-Persson signing from Malmö who joins new faces Admir Ćatović (Väsby United), Ivan Turina (free), Goran Ljubojević (NK Zagreb) and former Elfsborg star Helgi Daníelsson (Hansa Rostock) as the club look to change their lowly league position.

Miller in at AIK

AIK have moved swiftly to save their season as they have announced that Alex Miller will be their new manager. AIK found out yesterday their champions league opponents but after that comes the resumption of the Allsvenskan campaign that has so far been really poor for AIK.
Alex Miller who was part of Rafael Benítez's back-room staff when Liverpool won the champions league in 2005 will take over from Bjorn Weestrom. Weestrom will become Miller's assistant for the rest of the season.
So far it is unknown as to Miller's contract but it has been speculated to be until the end of the season with a review process afterwards to decide if Miller will be kept on. AIK resume their domestic campaign on July 5th with a Svenska Cupen tie away to Angelholm before their Champions league tie with Jeunesse Esch which is followed by their first Allsvenskan match after the summer break at home to high-flyers Malmo.

Superettan update

The Superettan this year is featuring a thrilling promotion race that features no fewer than six sides with another five sides just four points off those leading six.
Both relegated Allsvenskan sides from 2009 haven't set the world alight but are realistically still in the race despite being seven points off top spot currently occupied by IFK Norrkoping. The race may well feature less side this time three months but for the time being we have an exciting league on our hands right below the Allsvenskan.
Newly promoted Degerfors are making a tremendous effort of securing an unlikely promotion to the Allsvenskan. Degerfors who in 2008 finished 16th in the Superettan and therefor relegated to the Division 1 Sodra for 2009 would be the shock of the season if they won promotion this year.
Another side exceeding expectation this year is IK Brage. Newly promoted after their play-off victory last winter they are three points from the relegation play-off zone despite being favourites to go down this year.
Then we have the bigger clubs in the league with IFK Norrkoping, last in the Allsvenskan in 2008 in which they finished bottom pushing for promotion this year after a quiet season last year. GIF Sundsvall, also last in the Allsvenskan in 2008 are making a real push this year as are Ljungskile and Landskrona BoIS, now managed by Henrik Larsson. Hammarby and Orgryte may be off but don't rule them out of making a push when the final third hits.
Relegation is also being keenly fought with newly promoted Osters from Vaxjo the big name club down there. FC Trollhatten are currently bottom with just seven points from twelve games while Vasby United are the other side occupying the automatic relegation spot just a point better off.
Other sides in the tussle include Falkenbergs, Angelholms, Jonkopings Sodra plus Orgryte and Hammarby who are level on 16 points but the league is so tight that a good run you are in the race for promotion while a bad run will see you involved in a relegation scrap. The picture will be clearer by September when we enter the final stages of the season. Still plenty of football to play in the Superettan.

Europea League draw

Fair-play winners Gefle have been handed a good draw in the first qualifying round for the 2010-11 Europa league campaign.
The Gavle club will face NSÍ Runavík of the Faroe Islands. NSÍ Runavík, who finished 4th in the Vodafonedeildin last year are one of the 'easier' ties Gefle could've got. NSÍ Runavík do have international players in their squad. Jóhann Troest Davidsen, Christian Hogni Jacobsen and Einar Hansen are just three of the squad who play for the Faroe Islands's national side.
Kalmar are the other side in the 1st qualifying round from Sweden. They also face Faroese opposition in the shape of EB/Streymur. EB/Streymur finished 2nd in the Vodafonedeildin last year and are one of the best sides the Faroe Islands has to offer. Kalmar with the quality they have should be able to see off any challenge from the Faroese side.

2nd qualifying Round:
The 2nd qualifying round makes for some good ties for the Swedish sides. Elfsborg enter at this stage and have been handed Moldovan opposition with Iskra-Stal coming out of the hat for the Boras side. Iskra-Stal contain a a squad of Moldovans and some Ukrainians so an eastern european trip for Elfsborg. They begin the 1st leg at home on the 15th July with the 2nd leg on July 22nd. Elfsborg are at home first.
Gefle, should the progress against NSÍ Runavík will face either Dinamo Tbilisi or Flora Tallinn on July 15th away with the home leg on the 22nd July. A trip east for Gefle should they progress.
Likewise for Kalmar. Kalmar who should beat EB/Streymur will face the winners of FC Dacia of Moldova or FK Zeta of Montenegro. They will be away first on 15th July with the home leg on July 22nd.

AIK get Jeunesse Esch in Champions League

2009 Allsvenskan champions AIK will play 2009-10 Luxembourg National Champions Jeunesse Esch in the 2nd qualifying round.
The draw has given AIK a good chance of qualifying for the third round that could see AIK face a much sterner test than what Jeunesse Esch can offer. The Rasunda club are at home in the first leg that kick-off on July 13th/14th with the 2nd leg in the Josy Barthel stadium in Luxembourg city a week later on July 20th/21st.
Juenesse Esch are the current champions of Luxembourg and although not regarded as the best in Luxembourg in the past few years they will be going on the defensive side against the stronger side on paper AIK. They are also the record title holders in Luxembourg with 28 titles to their name. They sought off the challenge of defending champions F91 Dudelange by three points and so their reward is this tie against AIK.
Although being semi-professional the club will be looking for a shock by beating AIK. AIK who have been struggling this season to emulate last year's double success will have to get past Marc Oberwies in the Jeunesse Esch goal and handle striker Sergio Pupovac who has been in free-scoring form for the side domestically.
