AZ Alkmaar 2-0 IFK Göteborg 30th July 2010

A good tie for both sides, IFK were slight underdogs due to their mixed season so far but did look fresher than their Dutch counterparts at times. However it was a disappointing result for IFK as they were beaten 2-0 on the night with goals from Ragnar Klavan and Johann Gudmundsson both strikes in a five minute period early in the second half. IFK 2-0 down heading into next week's 2nd leg so goals will be the objective. A familar name will also be at the Gamla Ullevi next week too.

Kalmar 1-1 Levski Sofia 29th July 2010

Not the result Kalmar had fancied at the start of the game. Levski Sofia will have the upper hand in Bulgaria where they outplayed Dundalk in the previous round.
Joaozinho was first to hit the target as he put Levski in front after 28 minutes. The Bulgarians came to Kalmar looking for a good result to take home and they certainly got it here.
A late reply from Abiola Dauda salvaged a draw for Kalmar but the hard work starts here as they must win in Sofia to progress.

A 3-3 thriller last weekend was followed up by a solid 3-0 victory for Orebro in their quest to secure European football. Elfsborg had been doing well. A changing point was the introduction of Astit Ajdarevic, newly signed by Orebro for Fredrik Nordback who limped off injured.
Roni Porokara came close to finding the first goal before the indrouction of Ajdarevic while Johan Larsson had a glorious chance to put the visitors in front.
Astri Ajdarevic did find the net with a long-range shot that beat Anté Covic in the bottom corner, just before half-time.
The 2nd half produced more as a Samuel Wowoah corner was headed home by Ajdarevic, his 3rd goal in the league since joining on a free transfer earlier this month.
Elfsborg almost found a goal themselves when a dink from Johan Larsson found Amadou Jawo who forced a smart save from John Alvbage.
Marcus Astvald then showed some brillient skill to get past Jon Jonsson put shot wide. Porokara came close again before an absolutely breathtaking goal from Samuel Wowoah left Covic with no chance after he swivled past a couple of players before shooting from 30 yards into the top corner. A goal perfect to win any game.

Mehmeti was proving a tough act for AIK as he somehow got the better of Per Karlsson put his shot was saved by Ivan Turnia.
AIK took a while to settle and an Antonio Flávio effort was as good as it got for them in the first half. Just before the half-time break Jimmy Durmaz profited from a mistake by Antonio Flávio to cross for Mehmeti who touched home for 1-0.
The second half saw more chances for Malmo with Durmaz forcing a good save from Turnia before Mehmeti's header later on flashed agonizingly wide of Turnia's right-hand post. Dacia had a big chance in the 61st minute when a free-kick fell to Iulian Bursuc but he scuffed his effort. Kalmar had a couple of dangerous chances with forcing Dacia stopper Eugen Matiughin into a good save late on in the game.

AIK began their champions league campaign with an uninspiring 1-0 win over Luxembourg titleholders Jeunesse Esch. A single strike from Pontus Engblom was enough for AIK to win on the night while also taking a narrow advantage to Luxembourg city next week.
The visitors were content of holding out for a draw and were on course until Engblom drove a shot through Marc Oberweis from a narrow angle undid their resistance.
AIK had other chances to extend their lead Nils-Eric Johansson scuffing his shot from a corner while Antonio Flávio had his shot curling off target. Jeunesse Esch almost found an away goal when Serdo Pupovac was muscled out by Per Karlsson which means Jeunesse Esch have it all to do next week.

The recently relegated Stockholm giants took an early lead through Sebastian Castro-Tello after nine minutes before 2nd half goals from Petter Furuseth and Castro-Tello gave Hammarby a commanding 3-0 lead. Mjällby 4-1 Malmö: Properly the standout result of the last 16 was Mjällby easily progressing to the last 8 with a thumping 4-1 win over Malmö. The game will be remembered for Mostapha El-Kabir's wonder show as he scored all four goals while Malmo had Guillermo Molins pulling a goal back before striker Edward Ofere was sent-off. So Malmö out while Mjällby will be a threat in the last 8.

GAIS 0-0p IF Brommapojkarna: A penalty shoot-out victory saw IF Brommapojkarna advance to the last 8. A 0-0 shutout over the course of 90 minutes and extra-time was settled when Pär Asp converted his crucial penalty for IF Brommapojkarna to record a 4-3 win on penalties.

Ängelholms 1-2 AIK: AIK are still in the hunt to re-claim the Svenska Cupen after surviving a scare here at Superettan side Ängelholms. Kalmar 1-0 EB/Streymur 1st July 2010

Kalmar were frustrated by EB/Streymur as they had Ricardo Santos to thank for getting them this slender advantage to take to the Faroe Islands next week.
A well worked move by Kalmar with some good passing before a through ball was pounced on by Ricardo Santos was the result of the only goal of the game at the Fredriksskans. That goal came in the 79th minute which means that Kalmar will have a narrow lead. EB/Streymur though are not out of this tie yet not by a long shot.

NSÍ Runavík 0-2 Gefle 1st July 2010

Gefle will take a two goal lead back with them to Sweden ahead of next Thursday's 2nd leg in Gavle. Their Faroes opponents did however frustrate Gefle for long periods and it wasn't until 35 minutes in when Alexander Gerndt made it 1-0. Do their credit NSÍ kept their focus until half-time.
Per Olsson's men did make it 2-0 on the hour mark as Gerndt grabbed his 2nd of the game and was taken off soon after. Gefle had chances further on in the game with Frempong and Lantto missing the target but NSÍ could have forced a vital goal on 77 minutes when Károly Potemkin forced Matias Hugosson into action. A good 2-0 win which means that NSÍ Runavík need at least three goals to progress.

Two wins for Sweden in Europa league

The two sides representing Sweden in the 1st Qualifying round of the 2010-11 Europa League both won albeit narrowly.
Gefle travelled to NSÍ Runavík and got a 2-0 win to take home next week while Kalmar did just enough in their 1-0 win over EB/Streymur at the Fredriksskans.
Both sides are in action next Thursday with Gefle hosting NSÍ Runavík while Kalmar travel to the Faroe Islands for the return leg against EB/Streymur.

Svenska Cupen Last 16
