Kalmar 4-1 Orebro 28th April 2010

A very surprising result this after the weekend's games you would've bet your house on Orebro coming away with at least a point.
But Kalmar had other idea as they stunned their opponents. Daniel Mendes opened the scoring for the 2008 champions on the half-hour before Alejandro Bedoya set-up Markus Astvald for the equalizer on the stroke of the half-time whistle.
Kalmar regrouped and offered a big treat to the Orebro rearguard and they took the lead on 58 minutes thanks to Brazilian Ricardo Santos. Ricardo Santos made it 3-1 on 65 minutes after being assisted by Daryl Smylie.
Captain Henrik Rydstrom capped a great day at the office for Kalmar with a fourth goal on 77 minutes which was the final nail in the coffin for Orebro. An amazing result and way to get a first win of the season.

BK Hacken continue to slip down the table while GAIS they are going the opposite direction another great win for them.

Halmstads 1-0 Gefle 28th April 2010

Halmstads overcame the pain of last weekend's 3-0 defeat away to Orebro by narrowly beating Gefle at the Orjans Vall. In a tough game especially after that defeat Halmstads adjusted and scored the only goal of the game after 24 minutes when Anselmo finished.
Gefle offered little in attack wasting chances when provided but Halmstads will take this victory as it keeps them firmly in the Europa League hunt. Gefle's struggles continue.

Round 8 Review

Round 8 is done and dusted and it was a good round for Helsingborgs as they restored their five-point lead at the top. They recorded a narrow win away to Mjallby while 2nd placed Malmo were also victorious at home to Djurgarden to keep the pressure on.

Djurgarden were getting back into the game until Larsson struck again on 63 minutes which left Djurgarden with defeat again.
The Stockholm side did at least manage a goal for their efforts as Kasper Hamalainen, one of many Finnish players in the squad bundled in on 86 minutes. Djurgarden go home with nothing while Malmo are firmly involved in the title race after this result.

Elfsborg 5-1 Trelleborgs 25th April 2010

Elfsborg are the goal kings this season. Another thumping home win bought their total up to 17 goals in 8 games. They had to come from behind in this game as Joakim Sjohage put Trelleborgs in front after barely five minutes.

AIK 1-1 BK Hacken 24th April 2010

AIK were prevented from taking all three points by an organized BK Hacken side. AIK were now in good spirits after last week's victory and were looking to build on it with a good result here. BK Hacken managed to have a goal disallowed for a dubious offside decision as they started well.
They did take lead when Dulee Johnson put them in front after 38 minutes after some good work on the wing by Martin Kayongo-Mutumba. That lead was short-lived however when Dominic Chatto pounced just before the break with a great strike that beat Tomi Maanoja.
The 2nd half saw few chances but the happier side maybe will be BK Hacken who managed to salvage a point. AIK are unbeaten in two now.

Atvidabergs 2-1 IFK Goteborg 24th April 2010

The biggest shock of the season so far was Atvidabergs getting their first win of the season against an IFK Goteborg side on the back of a 5-1 victory last time out.

Djurgarden rallied and were level within ten minutes with Alberis Silva putting through his own net with a close range header. It was a disappointing end to a half that Ativdabergs showed belief. Just after the hour mark Djurgarden took the lead when Kebba Ceesay struck with a header from a corner although it might well have taken a touch from Pontus Karlsson.
It ended 2-1 to Djurgarden as they move up to 12th while Atvidabergs remain bottom but are off the mark on the scoring front.

Orebro came back from Gavle with all three points as they brushed Gefle aside and move into the hunt for a Europa league place.

The game was sown up when Kenny Pavey found Miran Burgic who scored his 2nd goal of the season having been without a goal since 2008 due to injury.

BK Hacken 0-1 Mjallby 19th April 2010

BK Hacken's form is now bad after this defeat at home to surprise package Mjallby. BK Hacken, themselves 2009's surprise package were dealt a vital blow when Mostapha El-Kabir struck on 59 minutes for what turned up to be the winner.

GAIS came out in the 2nd half looking to level the scores but were kept out by Halmstads as they too looked for that vital 2nd goal.
That 2nd goal did come and it came in the form of Marcus Olsson on with ten minutes of normal time remaining. Olsson was then booked for his celebration but not that it mattered. In stoppage time Emir Kujovic added a third to complete a good day in front of goal for Halmstads and send GAIS back to Goteborg empty handed.

IFK Goteborg 5-1 Elfsborg 18th April 2010

IFK Goteborg turned a new stone this season as they bounced back from a slump in form in style. Elfsborg themselves were on a good run but they were simply no match for IFK today.
It started so well for the visitors as they took a 4th minute lead through Martin Ericsson. But their afternoon began to turn bad as keeper Nathan Coe was sent-off which forced Martin Ericsson off for Joakim Wulff to deputize.
Four minutes later Sebastian Eriksson leveled the scores before Icelandic ace Hjalmar Jonsson put IFK in front on 41 minutes.
Elfsborg were now chasing the game for at least a point and their hopes were dealt a big blow when Jakob Johansson put IFK 3-1 up with nine minutes to go. Round 6 Review

Round 6 being a mid-week round was an opportunity for some sides to recover from last weekend's disappointments.
AIK though were beaten again at home by Halmstads by the odd goal while Djurgarden failed to build on a great result last weekend when they went down 3-1 at Elfsborg.
Helsingborgs continue to set the pace as they strolled to a 3-0 win over bottom side Atvidabergs, still yet to score this season.
Orebro had Alejandro Bedoya to thank as they claimed all three points in a close encounter with IF Brommapojkarna while GAIS were 2-1 victors over Gefle.
Mjallby's fine season continued even though they could only draw 0-0 at home to Kalmar while Trelleborgs recorded their first win of the season.
Malmo continue to stay in touch at the top as they sent BK Hacken crashing to a 3-1 defeat. Round 7 kicks-off on Sunday with IFK Goteborg hosting Elfsborg.

GAIS 2-1 Gefle 15th April 2010

GAIS are turning into a very solid and hard to beat team. They overcame the pressure of Gefle at the Gamla Ullevi to record their 2nd victory at home.
Having beaten AIK here, they were looking to add Gefle to that list and they did. Fredrik Lundgren put them ahead after 22 minutes before Gefle managed to level the scores two minutes before the break thanks to Jonathan Berg.

Mjallby 0-0 Kalmar 15th April 2010

Mjallby proberly deserved more but in the end they had to settle for a 0-0. Mjallby have taken the league by storm so far this year while Kalmar have struggled this year.
Kalmar might be a small bit disappointed with this as they did have some good chances but their first win will surely come soon. As for Mjallby they continue to win points.

IF Brommapojkarna 0-1 Orebro 15th April 2010

Orebro's home form may have dipped but they are effective on their travels. This was another hard-fought victory over IF Brommapojkarna.
The hosts looked like they would be able to hold out for a draw and maybe nick the win but Orebro had other ideas.
Only one goal settled this game and it came from the rising American star Alejandro Bedoya. Bedoya, who will surely be off to a bigger stage next year made sure of the three points were going back across to Orebro.

Trelleborgs 2-1 IFK Goteborg 15th April 2010

IFK Goteborg's season is turning into a disaster after they dropped more points here as Trelleborgs collected their first win of the season.

Thursday, April 15, 2010

AIK 0-1 Halmstads 14th April 2010

No question about the biggest disappointment so far in 2010. AIK can't buy a win at the moment and this was another disappointing showing in front of their own fans.
But AIK will feel hard done by in this game. Halmstads have been pretty much hot and cold this season so far but this result is certainly a hot moment. They closed AIK down well and it wasn't surprising that it took until the final minute for Halmstads to nick all three points. Jonas Gudni Saevarsson with the killer winner in the champions' backyard.
AIK stay in the relegation zone after this result while Halmstads are creeping up on the European hopefuls.

Malmo 3-1 BK Hacken 14th April 2010

Malmo remain 2nd in the table after a 3-1 victory over BK Hacken. This was a good game between two sides with Europe possibly on their minds.

Eleven minutes into the 2nd half Malmo hit the front thanks to a strike from Daniel Andersson. The three points were secured when U-21 international Guillermo Molins stroked home number three to complete a 3-1 victory and a good day for Malmo. BK Hacken though are losing form.

Atvidabergs 0-3 Helsingborgs 14th April 2010

Bottom against top and there was only one outcome in this game. Atvidabergs, bottom and haven't scored yet this season in the league against Helsingborgs with just two points dropped from a possible eighteen.
Scoring started on 36 minutes when Christoffer Andersson found the net in front of the 3,294 in the Kopparvallen. Just seconds into the 2nd half Andersson got his 2nd of the night which effectively sealed the result.
It wasn't until the last minute that Erik Sundin put the icing on the cake for Helsingborgs with a fine finish to send the Helsingborgs faithful back west with all three points.

Round 5 Review

A good weekend for Djurgarden as they finally got their first win of the season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Trelleborgs.
Malmo overcame Kalmar in an entertaining game while BK Hacken were held by bottom club Atvidabergs. Champions AIK were in Gefle while IFK Goteborg were held by IF Brommapojkarna. Orebro despite being at home were beaten by GAIS and Halmstads were another side to feel the pinch at home as Mjallby continue their flying start by beating them 2-1.
Helsingborgs continue to lead the table as they overcame potential title challengers Elfsborg 2-1. Overall an entertaining round of games. We have a midweek round this week with round 6 kicking off tomorrow night and Thursday night.

Djurgarden 3-0 Trelleborgs 12th April 2010

Djurgarden got their victory they were searching for as they thumped Trelleborgs 3-0 at the Stadion on Mondya night.

A good victory for Djurgarden while Trelleborgs, their first win still has to come. Djurgarden up to 10th while Trelleborgs are in the relegation/promotion play-off spot.

Orebro 0-2 GAIS 12th April 2010

Just like Mjallby, GAIS left the Behrn Arena with all three points in the bag. Orebro have been on a mixed run so far this season and this was another shock home result.
GAIS' much admired Brazilian ace Wanderson put the Goteborg side ahead after 37 minutes, a lead that GAIS would defend for the entire 2nd half.
Orebro have changed in recent years and under Sixten Bostrom they do like an attacking style which was used in the 2nd half but GAIS were holding on to a priceless victory.
As Orebro attacked, GAIS hit them a sucker punch in added time when Wanderson teed up Aram Khalili, just on as a sub three minutes before who wrapped up the game with the second goal for a 2-0 win.

Gefle 1-0 AIK 11th April 2010

Gefle recorded a 1-0 success over AIK at the Stromvallen as the Gavle side continue to impress. AIK however their season is going from bad to ugly after another crushing defeat.
It was Alexander Gerndt's 15th minute goal that did the damage here to leave AIK in the relegation zone.
Gefle's win means they are in 5th with ten points after five games while AIK are 15th with two points and no victory to show for their five games.

Kalmar 2-3 Malmo 11th April 2010

Traditionally this is always a thrilling fixture and this one did not disappoint. A thrilling game got off to a flyer when Abiola Dauda put the hosts in front after 12 minutes. It took Malmo just four minutes to reply as Edward Ofere got his 2010 season off and running with a cool finish.
Tobias Eriksson found the net seconds afterwards as Kalmar responded immediately. Brazilian Wilton Figueiredo leveled for the visitors on 53 minutes before Markus Halsti put them in front five minutes later. That is how it finished as Malmo go 2nd behind Helsingborgs while Kalmar stay in the bottom half without a victory.

Halmstads 1-2 Mjallby 11th April 2010

Mjallby continue to defy the odds as they collected all three points as Halmstads slumped to another defeat at home.
Halmstads have not had a happy time so far this season and it got worse today. It was the Orjans Vall outfit who took the lead thanks to Jose Sise on 16 minutes. However Mjallby leveled on 28 minutes when Daniel Nicklasson managed to find the net with his first goal of the season. Two minutes before the break Mjallby took the lead as David Lofquist pounced.

Superettan Preview

The Superettan begins on Saturday with two games. Falkenbergs host Jonkoping Sodra while newly promoted Degerfors go to Henrik Larsson's Landskrona BoIS.
As for the two relegated sides from the Allsvenskan in 2009, Hammarby start life in the 2nd tier with a trip to Angelholm on Tuesday night. Orgryte are at home to Vasby United as they look to bounce back up to the Allsvenskan at the first attempt.
The two furtherest northern clubs do battle as IK Brage go to GIF Sundsvall. GIF Sundsvall may be an outside bet for promotion but IFK Norrkoping struggled last year and may be among the names in the frame for promotion. Hammarby will be favourites to win the league but the likes of Angelholm, Jonkoping and Ljungskile could spring a surprise or two.
As for relegation well IK Brage will be favourites to make a return to the 3rd tier while Degerfors struggled badly when relegated from the Superettan two years ago. Falkenbergs and FC Trollhatten are normally in the mix but have experience of peaking at the right time to move clear. Vasby United may also be among the names in the bottom of the table.

Round 4 Review

Round 4 bought an end to the 100% win record of both Helsingborgs and BK Hacken at the top of the table. But despite those points lost they are still 2 points clear of Malmo who themselves are having a good start to the season.
IFK Goteborg and Djurgarden shared the points in the big derby at the Gamla Ullevi while Atvidabergs won their first point of the season at home to Kalmar.
Orebro held firm against the champions at the Rasunda while IF Brommapojkarna recorded their first victory of the season at home to GAIS.
After four games, BK Hacken, Helsingborgs, Malmo and Elfsborg are all unbeaten while Atvidabergs, AIK, Djurgarden, Kalmar and Trelleborgs are still looking for their first victories. On that note the only team not to draw a game this season so far is Orebro who have two games won and two games lost in their four games so far.
Just ten goals were scored around round 4 which may not have had a high entertainment in relation to goals but those ten goals were important in some of the games.

Atvidabergs 0-0 Kalmar 6th April 2010

Atvidabergs are finally off and running as they won their first point of the season after four attempts. The visitors have struggled so far this season with no victory as of yet and are just above the drop zone. The 2008 champions though did have chances to come away from the Kopparvallen with all three points.
Atvidabergs held firm and despite having yet to score in the Allsvenskan since winning promotion they have finally got off the mark which will raise confidence.

Elfsborg 0-0 BK Hacken 6th April 2010

BK Hacken held Elfsborg as they continued their impressive and so far unbeaten start to the season. Elfsborg, themselves unbeaten had chances to win but couldn't find a way past a well organized BK Hacken side.
BK Hacken, surprise packages last year could well go on and repeat that feat as they are level at the top of the table. Elfsborg their record of eight goals in two games came to a halt as a result of this 0-0 shutout.

Malmo 1-1 Halmstads 6th April 2010

Malmo preserved their unbeaten start to the season but will see this as two points dropped considering both Helsingborgs and BK Hacken dropped points at the top. Malmo fell behind early in the 2nd half when Michael Gorlitz struck to give Halmstads an unlikely lead.
Malmo though are hard to beat at home and continued to pile on the pressure which ultimately lead to them drawing level. Robert Ahman-Persson, scorer of two last week got another on 71 minutes which keeps Malmo in 3rd two points behind both Helsingborgs and BK Hacken. Halmstads a good point won in a difficult stadium.

IFK Göteborg 1-1 Djurgarden 6th April 2010

The big match of the round and it was a surprise result really. Djurgarden have failed to hit the ground running this season while IFK Goteborg haven't looked anything like the side that beat Kalmar on day 1.
To the surprise of the home crowd it was the struggling visitors who took the lead on 16 minutes with Philip Hellquist the scorer. IFK Goteborg were determined not to lose to their rivals and kept up the pressure before Djurgarden buckled. 56 minutes gone and Jakob Johansson leveled the scores at 1-1.
Both sides had a couple of chances after that but the draw will please Djurgarden more as they now have something to build on while IFK Goteborg know they are falling behind in the race for the title already.

IF Brommapojkarna 1-0 GAIS 6th April 2010

IF Brommapojkarna did enough to see off GAIS at the Grimsta IP on Tuesday. GAIS, who had beaten champions AIK 3-1 a few weeks ago were a shadow of that side.
Just the one goal to decide this match and it was Joakim Runnemo's strike on 50 minutes that clinched the three points for the hosts.
GAIS are two points clear of the drop zone and as for IF Brommapojkarna, their first victory of the season moves them up to 8th.

Trelleborgs 0-0 Helsingborgs 5th April 2010

Helsingborgs lost their 100% win record but do go a point clear of BK Hacken, who play later. Trelleborgs held firm against an in-form Helsingborgs side.
Trelleborgs were good value for their point and could've nicked all three had they been a bit more sharper in front of goal.
Recent new signing Erik Edman played well and showed his experience from playing abroad. A point each as Helsingborgs go top for the time being at least.

Mjallby 1-3 Gefle 5th April 2010

Mjallby were bought down to earth with a bang as they went down 3-1 to Gefle. It was the visitors who took control of this game. Gefle were ahead after 23 minutes when Jonas Lantto fired past Mattias Asper.
Lantto turned provider on 47 minutes as Alexander Gerndt made it 2-0 to the visitors. On 54 minutes a long punt up forward from Mattias Hugosson was met by Gerndt who made it 3-0 to Gefle.
Twenty minutes later in-form Mjallby striker Marcus Ekenberg pulled a goal back for 3-1 but there was no miracle comeback and Mjallby slump to defeat. Gefle a good victory down south.

AIK 0-1 Orebro 5th April 2010

Orebro held on for a hard-fought victory at the expense of defending champions AIK. AIK came into the game on the back of a disastrous start to the season and we out for a win here.
It was Kim Olsen who scored what proved to be the winner on 24 minutes that gave Orebro all three points here.
Nordin Gerzic was sent-off a minute from time for a 2nd yellow card but Orebro held on for a good win. AIK the misery continues.

Round 3 review

Round three ended with both BK Hacken and Helsingborgs continuing their perfect starts to the season with nine points from nine. BK Hacken were 4-2 victors over Trelleborgs while Helsingborgs overcame the presence of IFK Goteborg 2-0.
Elsewhere defending champions AIK remain without a victory after a surprising 3-1 loss away to GAIS. AIK haven't hit the ground yet and are just two places above the play-off zone with just two points.
One team that have hit the ground running are Mjallby. The newly-promoted side went to Orebro and won 2-0 in a ground where it is tough to get any result. Fellow newly promoted side Atvidabergs are rock bottom with no points and haven't found the net yet. They were thumped 4-0 at Halmstads.
Elfsborg were held 2-2 by the fighting spirit of Kalmar. The 2008 champions are in the relegation play-off zone after three games but certainly there is more to come from them.
Malmo are in good shape as they moved up to 3rd after victory at Gefle. The Southerners are enjoying a good start and hopefully it will continue.

Looking ahead to round 4, Malmo will look to get more points at home to Halmstads. Orebro go to AIK while two big names in Swedish football lock horns in the Gamla Ullevi as IFK Goteborg take on Djurgarden.
Mjallby host Gefle looking to continue their surprisingly great start to the season while Helsingborgs put their perfect start on the line in Trelleborgs. Likewise BK Hacken who face a stern test in Boras against an Elfsborg side that have scored eight goals in their last two games.
Winless Atvidabergs host Kalmar with both sides looking for their first victories of the season.

Djurgarden 0-0 IF Brommapojkarna 31st March 2010

Djurgarden had to do with a draw as fellow Stockholm side IF Brommapojkarna kept them at bay. Djurgarden went for a 4-3-3 as they chased victory but were undone by a well organized IF Brommapojkarna side that used a 4-2-3-1.
This result means Djurgarden are still winless after three games with just one point to show for their efforts. IF Brommapojkarna meanwhile have two points but still searching for their first victory of the new campaign.
