AIK: New dawn?

AIK have improved a lot since 2008's flop of a season. AIK made steady progress in 2006 when finishing a point behind Elfsborg in the title race and a year later in 2007 they fell off the pace and finished 5th. But last season they had an awful year. Never close to getting into Europe they did need a late revival to finish 5th but a massive 19 points off the title.

But the class of 2009 have made a good solid start to the season going into the 10th round of matches they were 4th and a point behind leaders Elfsborg. 2009 has seen Iván Obolo take stage and he has returned with 4 league goals so far. A total of 10 league goals in 2008 could well be beaten by the hitman. No.1 keeper Tomi Manooja was ruled out of the 2009 season with a broken leg leaving Daniel Örlund to keep goal and he has not done a bad job. He has kept 4 clean sheets so far.

But with injured players like Manooja out for the long term can AIK really put in a title challenge? Kenny Pavey has come in with his assists while Iván Obolo is scoring and Daniel Örlund is making crucial saves. But with a few injured players AIK will have to watch the disipline side of things. Kenny Pavey does get booked and so does Obolo. But the fans will want Europa league qualification at least and with a squad that AIK has it is within reach.
